Just watched episode 2, and I'm really enjoying this series. It will be great to see all the threads come together in the coming episodes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

The 2nd episode was better than the first, but that is not saying too much since the first was a big pile of crap! :)

I can't stand Hiro, and that Middle Eastern guy's accent doing the voice over drives me insane. Most of the acting is bad which is probably my main problem with it. The premise is good, but other than that...meh. I'll give it a few more episodes because I think a show usually only hits its stride after a few episodes,if it is a good show that is. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,836 ✭✭✭Vokes

Well, Mohinder is Indian, not Middle Eastern :) (does he have a superpower i missed?)

I think Hiro's pretty funny (I'm sure ive seen him somewhere :/ maybe a guest star on Without a Trace).

The 2 brothers, and Las Vegas girl, storylines are pretty boring so far.

    Looking forward to next week.

Haven't watched the second just yet.. probably will tonight but i LOATHED (and that's being kind) the first episode.

Will keep an open mind though.. i can see it improving it they kill off Hiro.... Christ, how annoying can one person be?!

SofaKing.. you may have seen Hiro on Scrubs as Franklin... recognised him straight away when i saw him as always loved when he appeared in Scrubs.. typically when the Janitor wants to make out JD is racist.

I keep picturing the scene in 'Scrubs'... JD is pissed off about something. The Janitor stands beside him doing a crossroad and reads aloud a clue.

    Janitor: A <blank> in one's armour?
    JD: [shouts] CHINK!

[ The Janitor steps back to reveal Franklin ]

    JD: No, no Frankin..
    Franklin: I always knew!

    :D:D:D

Ok Indian...sorry,same difference :p (kidding). He is annoying nonetheless. Don't think he has a power, just following his father's work to track the heroes down perhaps? start a little justice league? :) He might turn out to be a Professor Xavier type character,he narrates the show after all.

As for Ali Larter, hot indeed, but how is having a split personality (albiet a super charged one) a super power?

its been picked up for a full season! yay!!

i think the main reason i love the show so much is its basically a live action comic book, its not perfect by any stretch of the imagination but its damn geeky cool, plus i freaking love Jeph Loeb and Tim Kring

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

3rd episode was a lot better,I am actually starting to like this show now. I didn't think I would because I thought the pilot was crap. Hiro was less annoying in this episode and the evil Syler guy is interesting. Trying to kill off the heroes I presume. Telekinitc powers explains a lot :p Also the introduction of Greg Grunberg's character is a good thing. Good actor and mind reading is just plain cool :D The autopsy at the end was freaky. Lets see where is goes. Still havn't made up my mind on whether I actually really like this show.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,722 ✭✭✭Thorbar

Just watched the 3rd episode too and I thought it was great. This may sound gay but I think Hiro is a legend. He reminds me of cowboy bebop. Looking forward to the rest of this.

Agree with tvnutz.. despised the show after seeing the pilot but the last 2 episodes were very good.. with the most recent being the best so far. Finally get some decent plot development, tolerating Hiro and Ando a bit more (even though you know where Ando's obsession with Las Vegas and Niki is going).

Seems quite likely / obvious at this stage that all characters will eventually end up with Isaac or Mohinder.

But the Greg Grunbrg / Syler stuff was the best stuff in this episode - Grunberg always been one of my favourite under-used (in anything without a JJ Abrams credit anyways) actors and he really impresses me in each new role.

I think i will like this show.. providing we get some more insight into characters and a storyline as opposed to "ooooweeeeee..... i can move a rock with my brain" type stuff.. we know what their powers are by now.. we don't want to see new fangly footage of them powers being tested.

Also, is the subtitle with the Comic type font reminding us characters name and where they are necessary every time we see recurring characters? We know who they are by now... but in saying that, i love the "Chapter.." stuff at the start of each episode.

PS - and the Claire "Holy sh*t" moment was great.. just for that horrifying shot of her ribs!

PPS - and what's with the whole branch thing? I assumed she could heal herself but was the branch diminishing her healing powers in her brain? And if so, how did it come right so suddenly when it was removed? Just little plot details i like to try and work out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,571 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

I'm guessing it pierced her brain, and when she removed it, her brain healed (and so did she). Great ending. :)

I assumed, since the stick in the head killed her in the first place, that she couldn't heal until it was removed. Holy Sh*t indeed, nice ribs girl!

I enjoyed it anyway, I like Hiro and Ando's characters too. They are silly but fun none the less. You can pretty much see where the story is going but that's no real harm, as long as getting there is interesting and entertaining.

It does look kind of obvious that the girl that's hooked up with Mohinder is a spy, possibly working with Syler as he got tipped off about his apartment, but I wonder if maybe that's a bit of a red herring?

The Syler guy is also good, I wonder does he have loads of different powers? He got shot and healed himself, then flew away. He also has telekinetic abilities and maybe the ability to read minds (as he found the girl in the basement of the building). Wonder what else he can do?

He could have telekinetically repelled the bullets and used the telekinisis to carry himself away. However he does appear to have frozen someone. Perhaps he gets the powers of the people whose brains he takes, (eats?). And I assume it was Sylar who Matt couldn't read in the bar as he was wearing the code symbol around his neck, and he may have made Matt pass out.

I don't think we know what Peter's power is though. I don't think he can fly, I think he's a type of mimic stealing the powers of those he's around. Nathan was unwell when Peter walked on air as if Peter was making him weak and Peter also drew a picture of himself doing that before it happened and he had been with Isaac shortly before that.

Good ending indeed. Was expecting her to live, but didn't expect to get a bullseye view of her chest ;) Hoho!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,836 ✭✭✭Vokes

    Heh, nice set of ribs.

Evil Neighbour Girl obivously called in some of her people to grab Sylar's stuff. C'mon Mohinder, snap out of it, she's a baddie!

The Sylar stuff is good - he must be some type of psycho X-men Rogue type character.

Hiro stopping the traffic accident was very a cool

Nikki and her son still boring me to tears, I can't be the only one?

me too. seems like they only put her character in the show to have some good looking woman there. maybe she may improve when the 2 Japanese guys go to Las Vegas

Call me a pervert or whatever, i think cheerleader is much better looking.

    Anyone read Hiro's blog? :)

    Latest Entry....
    Captain's Log: Stardate 1758.5

    Let It Ride

んちゃ. I'm back in America! \(^o^)/ And I'm blogging from my cell phone. This is going to be expensive so I gotta make it quick.

So using Mister Isaku's comic as my strategy guide, I came back to the present, saved a girl's life, picked up Ando-kun, and flew to America. How did I save a girl's life? Easy. I froze time. (>_<) (o.o) \(^o^)/
My own Star Platinum's The World!

After my MP regenned, (it took a while before I could stop time again) I tried it again and I was able to stop time just a bit longer. It feels like I can control it. So I think I can master Time Freeze. I just hope I don't hit a peak at 5 seconds like Jotaro.

Teleportation and time travel is a completely separate issue. I thought I was only teleporting to New York, but I travelled through time as well. It does seem that I need to level up my skills more, but how do I level up? Do I need more MP? Raise my Job Skill? How do I get XP? Hmm. Oh no. How would I fight an enemy? ((T.T; )(; T.T)) I can't really fight. No weapons. My current spells would be Quick, Return, and Teleport. I think my Teleport would work on boss fights. I hope. But they would all be non-party casts. It would be good game Ando-kun. So I can't run away and go out of combat. I need my Marle and Lucca or a weapon. Too bad I can't learn Meteo. Hmm. Do you guys have any suggestions on how to approach an encounter with an enemy. I need the XP and the Gil. I digress.

I wish there was a guide on how to teleport and time travel. It would be very handy right now. The comic doesn't talk about how to use the power. I guess that's my own fault for just blindly following a strategy guide rather than figuring it out on my own. And it ended as well. "To be continued..." Boo. Looks like we're on our own now. (O.o) I could use my own personal Dr. Emmett Brown or Yoda right now.

Speaking of Yoda, it looks like we're in Tatooine right now. Supposedly, this is the road to Las Vegas, but it's just sand everywhere. It feels like we're about to be attacked by Jawas. Ooh. We're just like the droids. Dibs on R2D2! I'm on a mission with my cyborg translator, アンドウロイド to deliver a message to Mister Isaku. "Isaku-san, you're my only hope." o(^^o)(o^^)o No, wait. I can't be R2D2. I'm Luke, master Jedi! Must. Find. Lightsaber.

Oops, good game phone bill. (T.T) Vegas, here we come. Red five, I'm going in!

    時は動き出す、
    Hiro

P.S. Thanks for your help on "landslide". Another question. I was studying my phrase book. What does "Let it ride" mean? What is "it" and what is "it" riding? Rodeo term?

Its all HERE, plus there's a couple of graphic novels  fleshing out the characters some more.

I just watched the first three episodes in a row and this is my new favourite show! It's really interesting so far and I'm loving Hiro for the comic relief. It's good stuff ^_^

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 214 ✭✭nah_biy!

Is it me or is it unnessacarily bloody?

I think Las Vegas Niki will have a good episode soon 'cos she seems to have been captured?

All in all I like it and can see through the bad acting, which funnily enough makes it more comic book like in a way. Were it too clean cut it would be oversly edgey

This show is definitely getting better by the week.
Fair play to Claire;Good to see an evil streak in her. I figured that's what she was up to when she asked could she drive :)

Looks like iguana was right about Peter's powers too, at least, it definitely looks that way!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 518 ✭✭✭danbhala

what a fantastic ending to episode 4, how can people say that Hiro is annoying now!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 16,713 ✭✭✭✭jor el

Another great episode there in number 4. As said, iguana seems to have hit the nail on the head about Peter. Great to see Claire get a bit of revenge on yer man, could see that coming too as soon as she asked to drive. Nice one girl. I hope the prediction in the painting doesn't come true though for her though. I'd take it that's Silar that's chasing her.

Super Hiro from the future, that was unexpected. I wonder what the message is? I'd say he's going to tell Peter to bring Mohindar to Las Vegas to meet with them. I hope we see more of Greg Grunberg (the mind reading cop) and that the mysterious man doesn't chop him up.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 28,128 ✭✭✭✭Mossy Monk

great episode but again i ask wtf is the point of this Nikki character. going nowhere. what is that painting about the cheerleader about. so much to look forward to next week

this is my second favourite tv show this year, after Prison Break

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 44,200 ✭✭✭✭Basq

Yep.. 4th episode was very good and kudos to iguana for copping onto Peter's ability.

Nikki's character is essentially pointless.. meek one minute, raging violent sexual deviant the next! :D Unless is it possible her powers will tear her between the good side and bad side at one point or another.. with her good-natured stripper mom with a heart of gold side being dominated and brought over to forces of evil by her angry "heel through temple" bee-yotch side?

Interested to see what Hiro's message to Peter is is.. think jor el has hit it on the head. Or it could be the revelation to Peter about what the near future has to hold with regards to the catastrophe facing New York etc.

Yes.. the Claire bit was obvious but still quite shockingly done. As soon as they revealed he was a serial rapist, i knew she'd take some revenge.

4 episodes in.. this is probably my 2nd favourite new show of the year aftere 'Dexter'.

PS - i echo jor-el's sentiments... more Grunberg.. and now, damnit!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 642 ✭✭✭red_fox

I just watched the first four episodes and this is definitely a show I'll keep watching.

I thought after Nikki's 'Nikki's not here' comment in the elevator that she may not have a power but rather she's being 'possessed' by her husband. In her evil state she drew a map to the bodies in the desert so either her husband is innocent and she committed the murders or her husband is possessing/controlling her. Just a thought :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,920 ✭✭✭AnCapaillMor

Good found a thread on this. Brilliant brilliant show.think hiro's great, he looked well cool in the end, ending was almost as annoying as a lost ending. I reckon nikki's alter ego killed the husband.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,554 ✭✭✭herobear

For someone who many call 'pointless', Nikki sure gets a lot of discussion :D
i think she's great anyway. After initially disliking Isaac, there's not one character i dislike right now, they're all really different and yet work well as an ensemble(well i think they would anyway).

oh did anybody else notice the name of the casino Hiro & Ando visited ?
it was everybody's favourite las vegas casino
the montecito, i kept expecting Ed Deline or Danny & Mike to pop up and kick their asses, would of been awesome :D

Good episode. I'm warming to Hiro, but I still find him annoying at times. Maybe its just that I don't like time travel storylines. They always wreck my head, like a future Hiro coming back. In Terminator John Connors wouldn't have been born if they guy hadn't been sent back in time. In 12 monkeys, its a time loop. Does my head in! :P

Claire's father is interesting as well. Who is he? What exactly can the black guy with him do?

It looks like 20 years of X-men has finally paid off!!!!!!!!:p Peter has Calvin Rankins, Mimic powers and Claire has Wolverines healing power.

Interesting theory about Niki being under the control of her husband, though I think she is a bit like
Stephanie/Critical Maas in Rising Stars, she has a multiple personality disorder and her powers, which appear to be strenght and combat skills, are only accessible to the secondary, more violent and confident, personality.
Spoilered in case anyone hasn't read Rising Stars.

ooh another Rising Stars fan! :D i had that exact same thought as well by the way. loving how geeky and yet mainstream this show is

I've only seen episodes 1 and 2, currently getting the rest.
Fantastic show so far. I think I was one of the lucky ones, in that I quite enjoyed the first episode. And the ending of the second was just fantastic.

Thus far, I find it quite enjoyable and I have a feeling its only going to get better. Though... is there only 7 episodes made? :(

Oh and where do I recognise the indian guys voice from? IMDB is no help :(

Will post more tomorrow when I see the others.

Super Hiro reminded me of Bill and Ted. I was half expecting a baby and a guitar strapped to himself.

Another good episode. I am really enjoying this show now, hard to believe ased on my opinions of the first episode. It is really geeky and comic booky, but in a way that makes the plot of the show not seem so ridiculous.

Perhaps NIkki's character is going somewhere. I wonder what the deal with the husband is. I reckon the husband is innocent and it was Nikki's evil side that did the killings he is accused of. When they showed the husband it was pretty dark, but is he the same black guy that is wiping people's minds for Claire's father,or is it a different guy?

Speaking of Claire's father, what is he at? Is a good or bad guy? Its kind of hard to tell. He takes the "Heroes" but doesn't kill them, just wipes their memory and lets them go. Is he just finding out what each one can do? Claire also looks to be in for a brain removal, which I presume she won't be able to heal. :p Unless of course she is saved by the gang :) I like how they are all starting to link up with each other as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,870 ✭✭✭mikeruurds

According to the painting that Peter finishes she is due to die by getting a massive hole through her chest, not any brain wipe :)

The cop also didn't get his mind blanked out even though they had him for a while - maybe only a minor one??

    Great episode!

The cop had part of his memory erased, the part where he was kidnapped.

And I didn't say Claire's brain would be wiped,I said it would be removed. Thats was the painting indicated, like Syler did to all his other victims...removed their brains.

I'm actually in love with this show. Almost every character in it is just brilliant and they are all developing so quickly. After just the first 5 episodes, we have already had some really really great memorable moments.
Claire lying on the table with her chest cut open and her ribcage in all it's glory, then Nathan pulling a Neo when he just jetted into the sky like that :D
    .

Heroes has replaced Lost on my list and is now my weekly unmissable fix. I am most impressed!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,836 ✭✭✭Vokes

Heh, the tagline "Save the Cheerleader, Save the World" just sounds so ridiculous :)

But I am massively enjoying this great new show.

Is Sylar and Nikki's partner / husband the same person ? I couldn't really get a good luck at him at the end.

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 4,569 Mod ✭✭✭✭Ivan

I really dont think so. As far as I can tell, Nikii's husband is the black guy that works with the cheerleaders father. He reads and controls minds etc.

I'd say what happened was, Nikki killed his gang using her super-powers and he used his to seperate her consciousness into two fragments. One that could use the powers and one that couldnt. Thus allowing him to "set her off" when he wanted to use her and to have her all meek, the rest of the time.

But its breaking down, or something, since he has been unable to reinforce it since he was captured/joined the other guys and its taking the form of split personality.

Cylar is still an unknown at this point and seemingly the most powerful of all we've seen. At the very least he has tremendous telekinetic abilities.

    Really loving the show too!

    P.s. Whens it actually out?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,917 ✭✭✭✭iguana

Nice theory Ivan, but both characters are played by different actors. DL is played by Leonard Roberts and Mind-Wipe Guy is played by Jimmy Jean-Louis. I twigged it because I recognised Roberts from Buffy.

Although you might still be right about how Niki gained her secondary personality. Mr Bennet's order to "only take the one" at the end of ep4 suggests that they may be aware (or at least suspicious of) of Niki's abilities.

On a side note, how sure are we that Bennet's organisation killed Mohindar's father. Could he have been killed by Sylar and Bennet was only investigating his research?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,788 ✭✭✭tvnutz

ah yes,it was the guy from buffy. it was fairly dark and you couldn't see him all that well. I reckoned it wasn't the same guy as the mind control weirdo anyway.

    SofaKing wrote:

Well, that we know of! ;)

I have a theory that Sylar's abilities may be similar to Peter's, as Peter's power allows him to experience the power of people around him. But what if someone else had a similar power but over time the temporary rush of the power was not enough for him. Then he discovered that by ingesting the brain of the powered person he could keep the powers permenantly. So Sylar is like an addict who doesn't really like to kill people but is addicted to the powers he gains by killing. That would explain his bitterness at Mohinder's father for helping him uncover his abilities and turning him into what he is.

It's just a theory, I don't think Peter is actually Sylar. Unless of course Sylar is a future Peter who has killed future Hiro and is going back in time to kill. But that would be crap.:D :D:D
