my class was cancelled

I signed up for an art class last week and got a call today that it was cancelled. I'm so disappointed:(

Long story short... I have some artistic ability. I nearly went to art college wayyyy back but chose a different path while promising myself that I would keep up the art and not let it slip. For a long time I kept the promise with life drawing classes, dabbled in pottery and bits and pieces.

In recent years other parts of my life have taken over and I haven't put pencil to paper, other than drawing with the kids, for about 8 years. :o

This class was going to be my new start!!
I know I shouldn't really need a class but it's kinda hard to do/ concentrate on at home with so many other distractions. I also think that peer support and tutor guidance is so important.

However, since a class is not possible now can anyone recommend a book or even some internet resource that would have some guidance, maybe with suggestions for studies that could get me started again?

    Thanks

    P

I wish I could help you; I'm not a visual artist, but I'm sure there are more than one art class available for you to take. I know it may be expensive, but I'm sure you could find a university art class.

    Good luck ... ^_^

well all i can say is classes tend to start at this time of year so it should be easy enough to get on a course if you keep looking. Try daycourses or nightcourses.com and don't let it get you down, may be it wouldn't have been a good class anyhow? :) otherwise some of the art colleges offer courses.

    Thanks snorlax and NoDayBut2Day,

Sorry I forgot to say i live in the sticks! This was actually the only localish class available.

I might look into online courses.... or maybe, just maybe, I'll do it the old fashioned way and just sit down some night with some chalks, paper and a good old bowl of fruit!

    Thanks anyway!

well i'm only 21 and there was no art classes in my area but i started up my own art group and it was going for a while..we had about 12-15 people attending it :)..you don't neccessarily need a teacher unless there are complete begineers.

littlebug sounds very like my story, with work, commute and a baby I don't have the time and confidence to start up really and I live in the sticks too so courses are limited. I also nearly went to art college but decided against it when I got offered a different place. I always say now if I won the lotto I would be back to college to do art. I took an oil painting course 2 years ago and surprised myself how well I did in it as I'd never done it before. The course was basically us all sitting around painting. It was nice to have a dedicated time to myself to paint and to have reassurance and tips from others also. I'll be very interested to read the replies you get. good luck
