Is it just me or does everyone find it so feckin hard to find motivated people to play with?

Ive heard every excuss under the sun as to why someone cant rehearse or make it to this or that.

No wonder most bands fold before they even start.

Why do people bother joining bands if they dont commit.

    Aaaaaaarrrrghhhh

I'm in a band and I still feel it!

Some people refuse to accept that they're just not cut out for it.

Whatever about being in the band with them, its ****in hard enough just to find people who are remotley interested in being in the band in the first place, ive been at it so long im beginning to lose interest myself, but if i knew i had the people, id be as excited as hell.

And talk about not motavated, what about drummers which up and **** off and never give you a word of notice or even talk to you ever again!!

Bit unfair on drummers in particular there. Anyone in the band could do that at any stage :p I'm guessing you've just had a particularly bad experience with drummers though ;)

It is increasingly hard to find dedicated people alright. I have to admit though, I've registered interest in a few bands, only to pull out, mostly because I know I wouldn't be giving it my all for whatever reason (music type mostly), and it's better to get out sooner, rather than leaving people in the lurch.

    To conclude: "Aaaaaaarrrrghhhh"

what is your musical type, just out of curiousity? I've been looking for a drummer for a while and there's not many that want to play anything outside of metal or classic rock - if not indie.

Similarly, I find that there are an awful lot of bands at the moment looking for drummers for metal, classic rock or indie. Not that I've got anything against these genres - I listen to quite a lot of metal and classic rock - but it's not particularly what I'd want to be playing.

At the moment, I'm just trying to find something interesting, a bit off the beaten track. Maybe something post/prog rock either melodic, or with a heavy kick. Maybe both! Hard enough to find individual people interested in playing music like this though, let alone a whole band's worth of them!

i guess i must of been a bit lucky, my band started out going through guitarists who couldnt make up their minds what they wanted and then one or two singers but now, we are all sorted and very motivated and rocking around Dublin!!

I've been trying to get a band off the ground too, but after all my hard work, booking studios and that I get a text saying "sorry cant make it". Bloody frustrating. Also a lot of musicians want to be in a band that follows the latest trend (Arctic monkeys at the moment) without trying something new. However If you are interested in starting a band Waltons with a prog rock flavour PM me, I play guitar, bass, and some keys (mellotron being my favourite sound). Have material written and would like to jam them out

I've been actively trying to get a new band together since June, and trying a little half-assed before that since Febraury. Last week, we had our first jam, four people, in the same room, playing music :)

Keep up the good fight ladies and fellas, keep pushing to get it done and it will happen.

Glad to see others have the same issues. I'm playing now full time, and have been for a while, but it's with a damn wedding band. I dress like a penguin, and rock out with waltzes and The Drifters. Great fun, my only saving grace is that when there's other Musicians in audience, they can see I hate the music when they see my gear!

Before this, I tried numerous times to get covers bands on the road, and the amount of useless/uncommitted Musicians suprised me. People whose ability was limited to power chords, people who would sign up straight away and agree with everything only to cause agro later, or my favourite, people who would show up, learn the sets, and disappear. It's tough, but eventually when you can all decide on a set, sit down, and have mature enough Musicians with enough free time, and forgiving partners, it can really work.

Only thing about Wedding work is the regular money!

i have to jump in here and agree to a certain extent.unfortunatly when you play music thats slightly 'off the beaten track' as was so well put earlier you are forced into a corner!

For instance we've been tryin to find a 2nd guitarist for nearly a year now and that in its self is a nightmare...never mind tryin to find a singer!
ive found that guitarists dont like workin with other guitarists and certainly if its not solos all over the place (just an observation from the ton we've been thru and not a sweeping generalisation!)

Singers - someone that isnt into secreamo and can think out side the box in a Mike Patton style...without actually being him!

Recently started up a covers band to make some money and again the same issue and this time with the added headache o tryin to find a keyboardist if not 2nd guitar!

I dont think people arent motivated i just think they are motivated into different styles o music...well thats my excuse for not bein able to find anyone and im stickin to it! :-\

excuses drummers have given me for not showing up:
"i sent you a message didnt you get it?" -- clearly not dummy

"sorry, my mother fell off her horse and i have to go to hospital with her" --what was she doing on a horse at 5am?

"sorry man, my sister broke her leg and i have to wait in hospital with her for 2 days till her parents get back" --funny how many family members seem to have ridicculous accidents the night before a jam

"oh sorry its my birthday party tonight so i wont be up on time"-- this one i actually believed

im starting to thing a good drum machine might fill the void quite nicely.
weve got well over a double albums worth of material and cant get any further cuz any drummer we find is either over enthusistic and lacks any sense of ability or they drop excuses like that on us:mad:

    grr... ive had my rant

well Filament, im a drummer i manage the band i am in and am very dedicated and i have found it to be guitarists who mess us about so not fair to give drummers a bad name because of your bad experience with a few.....

Being in a band is hard work.
Who ever said it would be fun all the time?

I'm living in frustration most of the time because the drive I feel for what I do is not shared by the musicians I play with, subsequently they drop like dead flies all the time...

Bitsie: Drummers HAVE a bad reputation... Don't try and get out of this one. Thats just the way it it :)

i lived in new york for a few years but found it hard to locate a 'scene' to get into, like punk at cbgb's or anything,i thought when i came back home i'd like to get a band going,my brother and i were close to startin one but i got a job in dublin,he's in college in cork
i thought it would be easy in dublin
anyway i'm tryin to get a few people together and bring what they've got to the table,
music is only sound at the end of the day
,some of the most famous bands are individually lacking personality and poor musicians so why be afraid of doin something original
jam, improvise lyrics and play to your strength see what happens
