Screen Dimensions

    Hi,
    I'm having difficulty trying to find the actual dimensions of screens other that the diagonal size in inches becase of the fact it may or may not be widescreen. Is there any table that explains all this and could show what the max resolution for such a sized screen is?

    This is relating to a notebook screen but I'm guessing it's the same for desktops too?

    The reason I ask is because I'm looking for a 17" laptop that is NOT widescreen. It seems impossible to find, and if there is no such thing, I'm wondering if a 15" NON widescreen one would be better for what it will be used for.

    Any feedback would be appreciated:)

    You can tell by the resolution, ie 1280*1024 is normal

    * 2560x1600
    * 1920x1200
    * 1680x1050
    * 1440x900
    * 1280x800
    * 1024x640
    * 800x500

    Would all be widescreen resolutions. Find the recommended resolution and find the type.

    Why NOT a widescreen? I'd only go wide if buying a new laptop/monitor now.

    Especially on a laptop, Dell for example let you go one up from the standard 1280x800 to 1680x1050, which is perfect for a 17" laptop screen, and still gives the same pixel height as a 1280x1024 screen, but can fit more lengthways. They even go to 1920x1200, but it's pushing it a bit fitting that many pixels into 17" until Vista sorts out DPI settings.

    And Lenovo thinkpads are generally non widescreen if you have to go that way.
