While the all-ireland series are over, a lot of county championships are up for grabs! So this is a thread designed to allow people to update everybody on how the county championships are going in their respective counties! Or just to update everybody on how your club is doing or did in the county championships!

Well I am from Wexford, and the hurling championship semi finals were played last weekend, with the outcome being a Rathnure vs Oulart final, they would be considered the 2 strongest teams in the county and this should produce a tight and exciting final

    Rathnure 1-17

    Buffers Alley 2-12

    Wexford SHC semi-finals

CAPTAIN Martin Byrne scored the crucial second-half goal to inspire Rathnure to a two-point victory over Buffers in the first semi-final at Wexford Park yesterday.

But Rathnure manager, former inter-county star defender Teddy O'Connor, will realise that far greater is needed to come from his side if they are to regain the title.

They struggled through the opening 30 minutes, at the end of which they trailed 1-9 to 0-8, with Keith Burke hammering home the Alley goal five minutes before the break. But Rathnure increased the tempo in the second half and Byrne's goal set them on their way.

    SCORERS - Rathnure: P Codd 0-9; M Byrne 1-0; N Higgins, S O'Neill, T Hogan 0-2 each; M Redmond, A Codd 0-1 each. Buffers Alley: K Burke 1-5; P Doran 0-4; J Hughes 1-0; C Gahan 0-2; K Harney 0-1.

    Oulart 5-6

    St Martin's 1-12

A NIGHTMARE display of goalkeeping from Mark Butler helped Oulart-the Ballagh overcome St Martin's in a very disappointing second semi-final.

After less than 20 seconds, keeper Butler allowed a long Stephen Doyle delivery slip from his grasp to the net. Three minutes later, Michael Jacob fired home a superb goal.

While Barry Lambert pulled a goal back from a free two minutes later, it was still Oulart-the Ballagh who led 3-4 to 1-3 at the interval with Butler allowing a Darren Stemp sideline cut to slip to the corner of the net. Oulart then eased their way through the second half to cruise into the final.

    SCORERS - Oulart-the Ballagh: S Doyle 2-1; M Jacob 1-3; D Stamp, N Kirwan 1-0 each; W Whelan, D Mythen 0-1 each. St Martin's: B Lambert 1-6; R McCarthy, D Lyng 0-2 each, R Lambert, P Murphy 0-1 each

In the football, my own club Castletown are in the semi finals against local rivals Kilanerin! Kilanerin have had the upper hand in recent years, but Castletown are one of the most decorated football teams in the county and won 3 U21 finals in a row a few years ago! Unfortunately Mattie Forde is back from suspension :( But I am still hopeful, despite some desperate performances in earlier rounds! In the other semi Duffry Rovers suprised a lot of people to get this far to play the defending champions Horesewood! So hopefully a Castletown vs Horesewood final ;)

In Galway we are down to the semi-finals in the SHC - they will be played this weekend:

Portumna (All-Ireland club champions) vs Craughwell

    Mullagh vs Loughrea

As you can guess, Portumna are defending champions, they beat Loughrea in last year's final (also beat them in 2003 final). Mullagh beat Athenry in the last round and are appearing in their first semi-final at Senior in something like 70 years - same story for Craughwell, AFAIK.

In the football Caltra and Corofin are to contest the county final on the 15th of October - both clubs are former All-Ireland club champions (Corofin in 1998 and Caltra in 2004)

best of luck to Craughwell, Loughrea and Mullagh

It'd be nice to see a new club making the breakthrough

Yes, but maybe not this year. These clubs, especially Craughwell and Mullagh, have been very strong at underage for the past few years - it may take a year or two before they can claim the title.

thirdmantackle, it was only 3 years ago that Portumna made the breakthough ;) .

It hasn't gotten to Athenry proportions yet.

In Roscommon the John O'Mahoney trained St Brigids are strong favourites to retain their Senior Football Championship against St Fhailles on Sunday live on TG4 which will give the likes of Frankie Dolan, Curran etc a chance to prove to John Maughan that he was wrong to leave them of this years panel.
In the Hurling Padraig Pearses are looking to win their second championship (1st one in 1987) against Athleague on Sunday 15th.

In the Wexford SFC Castletown beat Kilenarin by 2 points in the first semi final on Saturday :D and Horeswood beat Duffry Rovers in the other! Unfortunately I cannot find a match report for the Castletwon match online at the moment :(
    Horeswood 0-15

    Duffry Rovers 2-5

    Wexford SF semi-final

DISPLAYING an uncanny accuracy in front of goal, Horeswood advanced through to a final meeting with Castletown having seen off the Duffry Rovers challenge at Wexford Park.

They champs led by 0-3 to 0-0 inside eight minutes before Damian Fitzhenry was forced to retired with a broken cheekbone. With Thomas Howlin and Gary Conway giving them a midfield edge, they moved into a 0-7 to 0-2 lead, before an Eddie Doyle goal from a long-range free hauled Duffry Rovers back into it, but they still trailed 0-8 to 1-3 at the interval. Horeswood picked off the scores after the break before Michael Doyle's late goal for Rovers.

    SCORERS - Horeswood: L O'Brien 0-5; C Deely, David Shannon, D O'Reilly 0-2 each; Darren Shannon, N Collins, B Hearne, Darren O'Reilly 0-1 each. Duffry Rovers: E Doyle 1-1; M Doyle 1-0; J Flynn-O'Connor 0-2; G Coleman, JJ Doyle 0-1 each.

Ballaghadereen beat Knockmore in one Semi-Final by five points on Sunday. Andy Moran playing a staring role. Two solid midfielders laying a good platform for the side.

Crossmolina beat Ballina by a goal. Very dirty game. Three sending offs with Ronan McGarritty and ex-Mayo player Tom Nallen being two of them. Peader Gardiner got a goal in injury time to put Crossmolina 2 up and McDonald tapped over a free to put the game to 3 up.

In Galway we had the SHC semi-finals over the weekend and surprise, surprise last year's finalists will be at it again on the 22nd.

Portumna beat Craughwell 2-15 to 1-12 with Joe Canning scoring 1-11 of Port's total.

In the second semi Loughrea beat Mullagh by 1-11 to 0-7.

    In Laois:

    SHC Final:
    Rathdowney-Errill….1-11
    Tinnahinch………….1-7

A goal from substitute Alan Delaney three minutes from the end proved decisive as Rathdowney-Errill overcame Tinnahinch to claim their first Laois SHC title at O’Moore Park.
t was a historic day for the Rathdowney-Errill club, which has only been in existence for two years. Rathdowney last won a senior hurling title in 1941, while Errill won the last of their two senior titles in 1952.

Tinnahinch were also seeking their first title and a goal by Tommy Tynan gave them the lead three minutes after the restart. However, the sides were on level terms before Rathdowney struck the winning goal.

    Meanwhile...
The pairing for the SFC Final has finally been discovered.

    Arles/Killeen will play Ballyroan Gaels.
Ballyroan overcame last years champs Stradbally after a replay in the Q/F and it took another replay in the S/F before they denied Ross Munnelly's Arles/Kilcruise a place against their neighbours in the final.

That final to be played this coming weekend AFAIK at this moment.

    Wicklow

Might aswell start with the football championship at senior level.

Final was played between St. Pats(Wicklow Town) and Kiltegan. Wasnt at the match, but Pats won it.

As for the Intermediate, my village Ashford were playing against Stratford. This was held last Sunday. Im going to say it now. yahoo, IFC winners 2006. Was a tough match to watch. with 40 seconds, Ashford scored a goal. This came from two frees from the throw-in. The first half was excellent for Ahford, going in at 2-4 to 1-4 at half time.
Then in the second half, it all just started going wrong. The ref started calling up frees for everything(and not just for Ashford), and then Ashford started making some stupid mistakes and giving away stupid frees. Stratford hadnt been ahead all game, and with 4 mins left the scoreline changed to 2-6 to 0-13 in favour of them. Ashford had only scored two points all half and had lost total control. Then, with about 15 seconds(no exaggeration), Tom Corr, on as a second half substitute, gets the ball, shoots, and keeper blocks. But as luck would have it, the ball rebounded right to him, so he took his second shot, lobbed right over two defenders, back of the net. Iv only seen one match where the crowd have gone as crazy(Leinster vs. Toulouse rugby last year). Unbelievable scenes. The whistle went in all that madness then.

sorry for match report, it just had to be said

    In Cavan:

Senior: Mullahoran won their first county title in eight years when they beat Cavan Gaels who were going for four in a row. Cavan Gaels disappointed, they have clearly lost their hunger for success and it showed. Mullahoran were deserved six point winners in the end with 34 year old Danny Brady being the best player on the pitch.

Intermediate: Ballinagh and Drumalee have to do it all again after a dull but very rough game. Not alot can be said from the first match apart from the fact that it was one of the worst games I have ever witnessed. Negative tactics ruined the game with nearly every player wandering around midfield. Carrying the ball was impossible in the middle of the park and the scoreboard showed it. It finished 0-8 a piece. Hopefully the replay this Sunday will serve up something a little bit better at least. My prediction: Ballinagh by 4 points.

Junior: Munterconnaught and Swanlinbar played one of the best matches you could hope for in a county final. They made little of the conditions which were treacherous to say the very least and put up a score of 3 goals and 29 points between them. Munchies, who narrowly defeated my own team Shercock in the semis, completely dominated the first half with Swad asleep, they went in at the break leading by 7 points. In the second half normal play resumed with Munchies going up by 9 points, home and dry some would have said but as they have done all throughout the campeign they let it slip. This time it proved costly with Swanlinbar chipping and chipping away at the lead and Swad's wing half popped up in the last minute of the game to save the day for Swanlinbar.

I missed alot of the replay, but from what I had heard Swanlinbar totally dominated and went in at the break with a comfortable 6 point lead. Munchies did not threaten at all in the second half and Swad ran in easy winners at 0-18 to 0-9. Munterconnaught truely left it behind them the first day, but there was no doubt that Swanlinbar were the best team over the two games.

In Wexford the senior hurling final ended in a draw last Sunday and will be replayed this Saturday
    O.-The Ballagh 1-13

    Rathnure 0-16

    Wexford SHC final

ON the national stage Wexford hurling currently enjoys far from a high profile, but arch rivals Oulart and Rathnure yesterday served up an entertaining and dramatic county final at a windswept Wexford Park.

After 65 minutes, the sides were deadlocked, so they must meet again at the same venue next Saturday (3.45), when yesterday's attendance of 8,630 looks set to be at least equalled.

It also finished a draw in the scoring battle between the Jacob and the Codd families, with respective totals of 1-9 and 0-12.

Mick Jacob and his brother Rory shot 1-6 and 0-3 respectively for Oulart, and Paul Codd and his brother Robbie contributed 0-9 and 0-3 for the opposition.

Reigning champions Oulart's hopes of registering their first hat-trick of county titles looked to be in tatters when they trailed 0-11 to 0-16 with just five minutes of normal time left.

But drawing inspiration from the fact that they battled back to earn a draw against the same opposition when nine points down with just eight minutes left in the league section of the championship, they valiantly regrouped to ensure a repeat meeting of the sides.

On 57 minutes, Mick Jacob drilled a 20-metre free to the net, after he himself had been fouled, and he quickly followed up with a pointed free from 65 metres.

The older Jacob also played a part in the equalising point, driving the ball cross-field.

His brother Rory then displayed a devastating burst of pace before pointing, hitting on the run off his left side.

Backed by the strong breeze, Oulart, with the Jacob brothers consistently threatening the Rathnure defence, led 0-9 to 0-5 on 31 minutes.

But in three minutes of added time, the challengers' Robbie and Paul Codd hit a point apiece to leave the champions with a slender 0-9 to 0-7 lead at the break.

Within two minutes of the restart, Rathnure, with their substitute Trevor Hogan prominent at right corner-forward, had levelled the scores.

And after midfielder Darren Nolan had hit back for Oulart, the men from the foothills of the Blackstairs Mountains shot five unanswered points between the 38th and 48th minutes.

A pointed free from Mick Jacob gave the holders some hope, but Paul and Robbie Codd then edged their side 0-16 to 0-11 in front.

No mention of Rathnure's second-half scoring return would be complete without reference to the fact that midfielder Paul Codd shot three magnificent points from play from 65 metres, between the 46th and 48th minutes, and another score, this time off his unfavoured right side, on 53 minutes.

Rathnure boss Teddy O'Connor was disappointed his charges had lost their five-point lead, but conceded that he was happy enough with the result.

"There was still over two minutes left when Oulart equalised, so we are pleased enough to get a second chance.

"After playing against the wind in the first half, we felt we had a good chance when we were only two points down at half-time."

Oulart manager Willie Sunderland said: "We made life difficult for ourselves by conceding a few soft frees before half time. Paul Codd was lording it at midfield for Rathnure for 10 minutes of the second half, but things improved for us when we brought out Keith Rossiter to mark him with 10 minutes to go.

"Mick Jacob had to go for the goal from the free, and Rory Jacob answered his critics by the way he scored the equalising point."

    SCORERS - Oulart-The Ballagh: M Jacob 1-6 (1-5f), R Jacob 0-3, D Mythen 0-2, D Redmond, D Nolan 0-1 each. Rathnure: P Codd 0-9 (5f), R Codd 0-3, N Higgins 0-2, S O'Neill, T Hogan 0-1 each.

    OULART-THE BALLAGH - P Dempsey; K Rossiter, D Morton, P Roche; D Stamp, L Dunne, L Prendergast; A O'Leary, D Nolan; M Jacob, M Storey, D Mythen; W Whelan, D Redmond, R Jacob. Subs - F Cullen for O'Leary (h/t), B Kehoe for Nolan 49, P Finn for Whelan, N Kirwan for Mythen (both 52).

    RATHNURE - D Flynn; S Somers, B O'Leary, A O'Connell; J O'Connor, M O'Leary, P Whiteley; P Codd, M Redmond; R Flynn, M Byrne, R Codd; N Higgins, D Guiney, S O'Neill. Subs - T Hogan for R Flynn 23, A Codd for Guiney 36.

    REFEREE - S Whelan (St Martin's).

But the game I am looking forward to is on Sunday, the Wexford SFC final between Castletown and Horeswood! Unfortunately I will miss the game, as I have a match in Dublin! Baile an Chaislean abu!
WITH CASTLETOWN chasing their first county title in a quarter of a century, and holders Horeswood bidding to put together back-to-back titles, next Sunday's WFC Oil Senior football championship decider at Wexford Park (3.15 p.m.) has all the ingredients of a classic encounter.

It will be the north Wexford club's first final appearance since they were defeated by Kilanerin seven years ago in Gorey, having also lost the 1995 decider to the same opposition. While Castletown are joint third in the championship roll of honour with nine titles - only two behind leaders Volunteers - they have suffered a barren spell since that golden era which spanned from the mid 1960s to the early 1980s.

Those successful teams were illuminated by top players such as the Merrigans, the O'Shaughnessys, the Cartys, Tommy Masterson and Oliver Cullen, to name but a few. And given the rich football tradition in the Castletown/Coolgreany area, it's no surprise to see that a number of those players' sons are part of the current squad, which also boasts a number of talented footballers.

Indeed, any team which has players of the calibre of Colm Morris, Diarmuid Kinsella, George Sunderland and Anthony Masterson has a right to be regarded as serious title contenders at the start of every campaign. However, it has taken the men in maroon a lot longer than expected to bridge that gap of 25 years.

After capturing three successive Premier Under-21 titles between 1998 and 2000, they were tipped by many to become Senior champions in the not too distant future. However, since the latter year, the nearest they have come is three semi-final losses, before making it fourth time lucky on Saturday week last against Kilanerin.

Meanwhile, Horeswood have quickly developed into one of the best Senior teams in the county by reaching their third final after only eight years in the top division. They don't hold too many fond memories of their first appearance, which was a 20-point mauling at the hands of Kilanerin in 2003.

However, after an unlucky third round defeat to Glynn-Barntown the following year, they reached the promised land twelve months ago with a deserved victory over New Ross District rivals, Adamstown. While they don't have the same footballing tradition as Castletown, the 1998 Intermediate champions will have the right to consider themselves the undisputed kings of Wexford football if they can complete back-to-back titles on Sunday next.

While both teams suffered early setbacks in the 2006 championship, they had sufficient character to bounce back and grab their second chance with both hands.

Castletown began their championship odyssey on the last day of April at Bree when they recorded a hard-fought victory over Bannow-Ballymitty (2-10 to 0-7). Before their next championship encounter, they had the small matter of an All-County Premier league final against bitter rivals Kilanerin to contend with. And it was a famous 0-10 to 0-9 success which denied their opponents a 12th consecutive title, and gave Castletown the belief that they had what it takes to have a serious say in the destination on the championship title.

However, they were brought crashing back down to earth just a week later when they were outfought by a HWH-Bunclody side which finished with 13 men (1-10 to 1-7). Unless they could get past St. Anne's in the third round, an early championship exit beckoned.

However, a goal from blood substitute Martin Hempenstall gave them victory by the minimal margin (1-7 to 0-9). Like last year's runners-up, Adamstown, they were beginning to make a habit of narrow victories, and a fancied Starlights side was then dispatched in the quarter-final (1-6 to 0-7).

However, their biggest match was yet to come - a semi-final bout with neighbours Kilanerin, who had Matty Forde back in action. Many tipped the 2003 champions to do the business, but a brilliant first-half performance by Castletown proved the platform for their first championship victory over their rivals in a long number of years (1-9 to 0-10).

Castletown have amassed a moderate scoring tally of just 6-39 (57) in their five outings to date, and have conceded 1-43 (46), giving them average totals of 11.4 points for and 9.2 against. The fact that they have conceded just one goal in the championship so far is testament to a resolute set of defenders who stick to their opponents like glue.

As goalkeeper Anthony Masterson readily admitted himself, he hasn't had too many shots to save during the campaign. The full-back line is likely to be made up of Michael Quinn and Paul Morris - who are survivors from the '99 final - and Colin Molloy, who could be handed the task of marking P.J. Banville, having performed an effective job on Matty Forde in the semi-final.

George Sunderland has been very impressive at right half-back and will surely be handed his chance by Wexford boss Paul Bealin next year, while Risteard Kinsella is a very promising young player on the other flank. Diarmuid Kinsella has been named at centre-back in recent outings, but operated as an extra midfielder against Kilanerin, so it will be interesting to see where he lines out on Sunday.

The only player already in possession of a county Senior medal in the Castletown squad is Jesse Foley (a winner with his native Fethard in 1998), and he is likely to form a strong midfield partnership with Tomas Sheehy, who is back in action after a few years out.

However, the one worry for the Castletown faithful on Sunday is that they lack a prolific scorer, as impressive full-forward Jody O'Shaughnessy is their leading marksman with a modest tally of 3-3. Diarmuid Kinsella is actually next in line with 0-10, but the majority have come from placed balls.

Wexford defender Colm Morris has mainly started in attack this year, but has been handed a roving role, which sees him operate primarily as an extra midfielder or defender. The Castletown faithful will be hoping for bigger scoring contributions from half-forwards Kevin and Noel Morris, and former Wexford panelist James Homes, while the skilful Eddie Condren is set to complete their attack.

The players most likely to be summoned from the bench include experienced attacker Martin Hempenstall, Des Carty and defender Alan Molloy.

The Castletown management team is made up of Bray-based Tim Healy (manager), Offaly native Joe Sullivan and former player Tommy Masterson, while fitness guru Glen O'Kelly from Dublin is reported to have done an excellent job in training the team this year.

As for Horeswood, for the sixth year running they got their campaign off to a losing start with a narrow defeat to Clongeen (1-10 to 1-9). However, they seem to perform best when the pressure is on, and they easily dismissed Sarsfields (2-15 to 1-9) in the second round.

They then had to pull out all the stops before seeing off a determined Gusserane side in the third round (0-12 to 0-10), which set up a repeat of last year's final clash with Adamstown in the quarter-final. However, without ever scaling the heights, they were always in control of this match, and finished comfortable 1-10 to 1-5 winners.

It was a similar story in the semi-final on Sunday week last when they proved far too strong for Duffry Rovers, and but for the concession of a brace of sloppy goals, they would have scored a far more commanding win (0-15 to 2-5).

The Campile men have scored 4-61 in their five outings, and conceded 5-39, for average totals of 14.6 for and 10.8 against. Despite missing the semi-final due to a hamstring injury, David Shannon remains their top scorer with 1-15, and all in Horeswood are praying that he will be fit for the final.

Shannon is closely followed by left corner-forward P.J. Banville (2-8) and placed ball specialist Leigh O'Brien (0-13). Along with Ciaran Deely, the Horeswood management team of Aidan O'Brien (trainer), Michael Walsh (manager) and Larry O'Brien, will be looking to this talented quartet to provide much of the inspiration on Sunday.

Apart from a rare mistake in the semi-final, Diarmuid Hartley is a reliable figure between the posts, while the return to action of solid full-back Jonathan Hearn against the Duffry after a long injury absence was a major boost. The two distantly related Murphys, Niall and Eugene, are expected to complete the full-back line.

Team captain Darren O'Reilly and Steven Collins will form a strong half-back line along with Leigh O'Brien, who has been in excellent form in recent games. Thomas Howlin finally seems to have put his injury troubles behind him, and is an influential presence at midfield alongside semi-professional rugby player, Gary Conway.

Should David Shannon return from injury on Sunday, it will be interesting to see who loses out, as all six Horeswood forwards got on the scoresheet in the semi-final. However, despite scoring two points in that game, Shannon's younger brother, Darren, could be the unfortunate one to make way.

Playmaker Derek O'Reilly has been in superb form at full-forward, while Barry Hearn and Niall Collins have also done well this year. Three members of last year's victorious team - Jim Wall, and the Kehoe brothers, Padraig and Albert - must be content with a place on the bench this time around.

This will be the team's third-ever meeting in the Senior championship, with Horeswood winning last year's semi-final, while Castletown edged a first round meeting four years earlier.

With both teams having a good number of players with inter-county experience (present or past) in their ranks, it should prove to be a very competitive and high-quality encounter. Whether David Shannon is available for selection for Horeswood or not will have a major bearing on the final outcome.

On paper, the Campile men would appear to have the stronger line-out, while they also look to have more firepower in attack - especially with Shannon in tow.

However, there is something special about the Castletown team this year, in their willingness to work hard for each other, ability to concede few scores and a never-say-die spirit.

They are given a hesitant vote to end 25 years of hurt by taking the Wexford Creamery Cup back to north Wexford after a huge battle.

In Roscommon St Brigids won the Football Championship for the second year in a row:( , with Garvan Dolan doing his best to destroy the good name that Roscommon GAA was trying to restore with their minors, by giving a V sign and grabbing his nether regions after he was sent off live on TG4, should get a six month ban IMO. Also Athleague beat Pearses in the Hockey I mean hurling final by 5 points twas a poor game.

In the hurling in Wexford Rathnure have won the replay against Oulart! In the football the game between Castletown and Horeswood ended in a draw!
    RATHNURE 1-12

    OULART/BALLAGH 0-6

RATHNURE ruthhlessly demolished reigning champions Oulart-the-Ballagh to take the Wexford senior hurling champions title in a disappointing replay at Wexford Park yesterday.

It was a demoralising experience for the Oulart side who were seeking their third title in a row but they were completely outclassed by a Rathnure side for whom Michael O'Leary and Anthony O'Connell were outstanding in defence as they restricted the champions to just a single point from play.

Rathnure set the standard, when assisted by the breeze, racing into a 0-4 to 0-0 lead by the fifteenth minutes with Paul Codd firing over three of the points and the other from Nigel Higgins.

Oulart had to wait until a seventeenth minute for their opening score, a Michael Jacob pointed free, with their solitary score from play coming two minutes later through Dessie Mythen.

Ten minutes before the break it was a sparkling piece of hurling that provided the game's solitary goal when Robbie Codd fetched a high Anthony O'Connell clearance out of the air to fire home a great goal, inspiring his side to a 1-7 to 0-4 interval lead.

Once Nigel Higgins increased the Rathnure lead within thirty seconds of the restart they laid down a marker as they went on to control the remainder of the game. The reigning champions managed just two pointed frees as they were totally outclassed, and were reduced to fourteen players close to the finish when substitute Paul Finn was dismissed.

    SCORERS - Rathnure: P Codd 0-5 (3f, 1 65), R Codd 1-2, N Higgins, T Hogan 0-2 each; M Redmond 0-1. Oulart-the-Ballagh: M Jacob 0-5f, D Mythen 0-1.

    Rathnure: D Flynn; S Somers, B O'Leary, A O'Connell; J O'Connor, M O'Leary, P Whiteley; P Codd, M Redmond; C Byrne, M Byrne, R Codd; N Higgins, T Hogan, S O'Neill. Subs: A Codd for C Byrne; D Guiney for Hogan; R Flynn for O'Neill; F Murphy for M Byrne.

    Oulart-the-Ballagh: P Dempsey; K Rossiter, W Morton, P Roche; D Stamp, L Dunne, L Prendergast; A O'Leary, D Nolan; N Kirwan, M Storey, D Mythen; R Jacob, M Jacob, B Kehoe. Subs: D Redmond for Kirwan; P Finn for Nolan.

    Laois SFC

    Ballyroan Gaels 0-10 Arles-Killeen 0-07

A poor game from start to finish as both teams let nerves ruin the occasion.
But congratulations must be heaped upon a Ballyroan side that was playing its 5th Laois SFC match in 5 weeks.
Draws in both the Q/F and S/F with replays played the following week would drain many clubs, but they put it behind them today, and came out on top.

It was Ballyroan's first title since 1992, and the hero for the winners was 2003 All-Ireland MFC medallist Michael John Tierney. ’Mugsy’ bagged four points in the opening quarter and would finish the hour with 0-7 to his credit – a decisive haul if ever there was one.

Although Arles' two Laois stalwarts, Beano and Donie Brennan kept the sides in touch until half-time, it was to be Ballyroans day.

Meanwhile Stradbally Parish Gaels dispatched Portlaoise in the Minor final on a scoreline of 3-08 to 0-10.

    In Carlow SFC

we finally did it. For the first time in 54 years Palatine are the Champions, beating Kildavin / Clonegal by a single point.

Question: On what website can I find the overall draw for the Leinster Championship?

    thanks

Congrats on the carlow title !! hope ye made the most of it at the weekend ??

in the 1/4 final of the Leinster hurling championship Craobh Chiarain ( Dublin ) defeated Mount Leinster Rangers in a close game

It was 2-9 to 9 points and the goals were the only difference between the teams. Two great finishes by Gerry Ennis and Stephen McDonald.

Craobh now face a big test as the play Birr in the semis. They do have home advantage and the game will be played 50 yards from our clubhouse so local support will a great help !!

    Leinster JFC:
Ratheniska (Laois) 1-21 St Munis (Longford) 0-2

My own club doing me proud this year. After losing the county final last year the club has turned in a tremendous effort this year [not me unfortunately damn college] and deservedly won this year. Now taking part in the Leinster Championship for the first time in a number of years at any level, [well the men anyway], saw them pitted against Longford.

In a very one sided game Ratheniska came out on top, with some poor play in general they were just too strong for St Munis.

Up next for Ratheniska are the Dublin Jumior A Champions... Can anyone tell me who that is??? I think the game is fixed for next weekend.

A big win for Brigits. Crossmolina should have been beaten by Ballaghdereen. Looks like Johnno got them at third time of asking.
Is this the end for them now, an old team?

    Leinster Junior Football Championship Semi-Final

    Park/Ratheniska [Laois] 1-11 Caulry [Westmeath] 1-07

    On we roll!!!
Into the Leinster Final we go, after a highly entertaining game away to Caulry.
Leading 1-06 to 0-02 at half time, Caulry staged a comeback into the second half, but Ratheniska provided that extra quality to see them through.

Up next in the final, are the Meath Champions.
That game to be played on the 10th December. It is home advantage to the Laois team for that game.

    St Brigids 1-10 Corofin 3-3

Amazing game - 2 goals to 0 to Corofin after 18 mins - then 7 amazing points, long range under pressure, great passing movements.

Then 2pts down 2 mins into injury time and a dream goal from Mannion.

Ross club beating Galway and Mayo clubs, both former All Ireland winners.

Carlsberg don't make Connaught Club Championships but .............

Leinster Junior Football Champions indeed Kaimera!!!!!

    Park/Ratheniska [Laois] 2-08 St. Ultans [Meath] 1-08

A superb game of football in atrocious conditions...
At half time St Ultans lead by 1-05 to 0-05

But a superb second half display by the Laois side, accumulated in a deserved 3 point victory.
The foundations of this victory were laid by a superbly taken John Kelly goal just after the restart, which put Park 1 point up.
Both teams traded points after that, until Park introduced Johnny Nevin at corner forward for the 16 yr old Colm Brennan..
What a substitute he turned out to be, scoring the winning goal after the ball came back off the crossbar with just 2 minutes to go in the game..
Park held on to become the FIRST ever Laois team to be crowned Leinster Junior football Champions...

Congratulations to them again, and my condolences to St. Ultans who provided a great game in the conditions provided.
