Or if you are still in school, what do you want to be when you grow up?:p

Are you close to reaching your childhood fantasies, or have you been thrown a wobbly, and are somewhere completely different from where you "ought" to be?

I wanted to write computer games. I was a real nerd child I guess.
I'm an electronic engineer now, and I have a two or three engineering tools written for fairly large companys that are in regular use, so I guess thats as close as i'm going to get.

Failing that i wanted to be a crane operator (or crane driver as I used to think it was) ? ? ?

I wanted to be a hairdresser, left school at 16, done it for 3 months, got bored, started to work in customer service, then back to college when I was 21, got bored after another 3 months then went back to customer service. Turns out I'm pretty good at customer service!! So I'm a CS rep now with good hair

In primary school I wanted to 'make robots', :D , dont know whethere there is such a job as a robot maker......but I wanted to be one! I put it down to loving the Short Circuit movies. I had this great book about robots that I got in Dublin when I was 7/8, so that was my bible!

Now I'm doing industrial design and have no desire to make robots......but you never know where my line of study might take me :p

A racing driver as a result of watching the epic battles that took place between Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, Nigel Mansell and Nelson Piquet in the 1980's.

When I realised I was not destined to become the next F1 World Champion, I wanted to become a mechanic. Guess I always had some sort of interest in all things automotive in a way.

A fighter pilot (after seeing 'Top Gun', probably), until I found out the Irish Air Corps didn't have F-14 Tomcats or F-15 Eagle fighter jets! :D

Then computers came into my life and I wanted to do something involving them. Turned me into the geek I am today, I guess! :D

Though, even today, I still am a big petrolhead at heart as well and deep down I guess I'll always dream of soaring into the skies and pulling loops and barrel-rolls at 35,000 feet at Mach 1.5 in an F-15. *sigh* :D

I wanted to be an assassin.
(I got a really low empathy level when it comes to people)

As I got older would have loved to have been a sniper/army ranger or pilot.
Parents did not want me joining the army, Did computers instead of a language
in school which made me not qualify for the cadets. Just as well would have made
a good corperal or sargent but probably a crap officer.

    A teacher or a doctor.

    My mum's a teacher and my dad's a doctor.

I can't possibly imagine why those were my chosen careers.

I'm currently doing a degree in biology, so I'm not too far off medicine!

As a kid I wanted to be an astronaut, watching the Salyut space stations and then the 1st Shuttle Launch when I was only 9, still crap eyesight and an allergy to gluten put pay to that, that and the fact that maths and I have a rocky relationship at the best of times!
Then something in science, yup, the maths thing again!
As a teenager I got into working with people with a mental handicap and started training in '90 and have been working in the field since then.
Strangely, despite my obsession with videogames I have never mixed up the delight if playing them with the drudgery of programming them, plus I probably get paid more now than if I typed code all day!

When I was younger, I wanted to be a doctor... I only changed my mind on that one when I was in 6th year in school. Now? In my 3rd year of a computer science degree and I've no idea what I want to do when I finish.

When I was a kid I always wanted to own a pub. No idea why!

When I got to secondary school it changed from a pub to a bookshop. This is still my dream job. Unfortunately I don't have the funds to do it, and probably never will.

I'm starting my job as a library assistant soon though so that will be close enough for the time being :)

A nurse or a doctor because at 5 I wanted to be what Mum and Dad are and then later because I LOVED the thought of being able to help people who are ill. Unfortunately I'm atrocious at science though!!

That idea crossed my mind, who wouldn't want 'free crisps and minerals' anytime you wanted? :)

Oh man, "minerals". Haven't heard that in a long time. Brings back memories of being in my grandad's house with red lemonade and french fancies.

Sorry..totally off-topic there but was hit with a wave of nostalgia! :)

    Carry on!
