Random Text Messages from unknown numbers

I once got a text from an unknown number that said

"Just to let you know that Dad passed away a couple of hours ago":eek:

As I was just talking to my Dad I knew it was wrong number, although the heart did get a little bang. I texted back that they had wrong number

Also got one in London one day

"Are you still looking for a bass player?"

Yeah, I get them sometimes. Some are freakily accurate. I couldn't tell one asking about how I got on ata concert was a wrong number until I asked tehm who they were. The person they meant to text was some girl at the concert I was at. Thought it was quite odd.

The text of the message cleary implies that the sender and the receiver have the same father, as if they were sisters or brothers.

A few weeks ago some guy txt me: Hey, how are you Michelle , Gary here, did you get home alright?
Having been out the night before and thinking that I might have ,met him when drunk I replied.
After a confusing conversation it turned out that he was from a completly different county and Id never met him.
Took me ages to convince him that I was the wrong Michelle, then he suddenly decided he wanted phone sex :eek: weirdo... The other Michelle probaly made up a number.

I get a few alright, although I have admittedly sent a few random messages myself to check if I still know people in my phone book. So if anyone got a message "I trust you enough to stick random objects in my ear", it was probably from me

Maybe they were texting a friend, not an actual relative? When I'm talking about my parents to my friends I always just say "Mammy" or "Daddy" as opposed to "My mammy/daddy".

That was probably not really coincidence, someone that knows you could have written your number somewhere like a public toilet for a laugh, happened to me once, got like 10 calls that day!

These people generally approach you when you're very drunk and 'get permission'. See the sticky in Mobiles/PDA about dealing with SMS spam.

I got one one time ripping into me for cheating on my gf (the text was from one of her friends) It was fairly abusive so I couldnt resist texting back saying she was a bitch and she deserved it. After that I got another one or two and I came clean.

I know I've seen em go around with their clipboards, but the three times I've been there I was sober so this didn't happen. That's why I can't figure out how they got my number. Thanks for the heads up I'll have a look in mobiles/PDA

I would get a call from this one particular number and the guy insists that he's trying to call his friend... who supposedly has the same number as I do. Once he texted me to see if I had a myspace... I didn't respond.

I still occasionally get a call from him.

Kinda weird.
