And if so, do you fake a ''sick'' voice when ringing in?:)

How often do ya pull a sicky?

Called in sick on wednesday morning. First time ever. I'm 26 and never called in sick before, always go regardless of a hangover or general sickness.

Still haven't gone back to work, prob go back in the morning.

I once took 2 weeks off work when I was "sick" but wasnt really sick and got away with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,743 ✭✭✭funk-you

Never used to until i was about a year into two year stint of working nights. After the first year i had to just to keep sane. Took about 18 sick days that year. I have a day job again now and pulling a "sickie" wouldn't really cross my mind. I've a job to do and if i dont do it the other guys will have to, i know i'd be pissed off if i had to pick up their slack.

The last three weeks are my first weeks off sick. I called in sick once in my old job but ended up going in.

Never called in sick..yet. I think the place would be shock and this stage so I'll carry on for a while longer. :)

    Not alot..
but when I do ring in I tell the truth.
My last one was "i havent slept all night, because I was worrying about stupid stuff, Im so tired I could cry, but I had to get up to tell you Im not coming in, so i might be in later but if Im not I'll see you tommorrow".
The next day my boss laughed at me.

Only once called in sick, and that was because I hated my job. It was only summer work, but I hated my boss. Coincidentally, he was too hungover/still drunk that day to work and went home early himself.

More recently, I went home from work in the morning because of a 'bad stomach'. Went on a 12-hour pissup that day/night and turned up the next morning, hungover as hell, stinking of beer and garlic. Nothing was said, but it must have been noticed.

Rarely. I'd usually come in, even if I am sick and then just go home if it is getting too much for me.

I was sick last Saturday (not a couple of days ago, the week before) and rang work. For some reason I made myself sound much sicker than I was - I usually do... not that I call in sick very often.

I read somewhere lately that the national average is 8 days a year...

I recon it could be higher if all you no-call-in-sick slackers would get your ass in gear

I love sick days:) Hmmm, i wonder what's on in the cinema?

I presume most of the posters here are not getting paid for sick days! I can't see any employer who pays for sick days tolerating too many. In most jobs a sick certificate from a Medical Officer would be required after the first few.

I've never had many sick days from any job and I haven't called in sick for about 4 years (since I started my current job). However, I have faked sickness (or at least exagerrated my hangover symptoms) in order to be sent home early at least once since I've been here. I prefer that to the guilt of not going in at all.

I've been here almost two years and only pulled a sickie once.

2 days in 18 years (about 15 years apart). My colleagues say I'm foolish as we get 6 cert free days per year but I don't agree. I don't like to tempt fate - I could fall into ill health tomorrow.

3 times in my life. Once per three major jobs I've had.

I'm a team leader and I HATE with a passion how some people phone in sick constantly and others don't.

So I practice what I preach - anyone who phones in sick constantly is just a useless unreliable employee. I pride myself on my reliability.

In school, used to pull a few sickies. In work over the last 6 years, twice, following suspected water poisoning took a day or two longer than necesssary off. Other that that no sick days, real or faked.

Our HR person once described a former public servant who asked her during his interview how many sickies in addition to holiday they were entitled to. Find the concept a bit absurd.

Thrree times in thelast six months. They don't pay sick leave for the first year, so I don't feel guilty about it :D

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Only once when I had food poisoning. I would still have gone in had I not being working with fresh food.:)

I don't call in sick a lot, well, if I am honest, I don't call in sick at all.
I will do anything to avoid actually calling in sick myself.
When I was in college, I would get my friends mam to call in and pretend to be my mam (if my own mammy wouldn't do it).
I have asked my BF to do it, and pretend to be my dad.
I have also called really early, to make sure I got the bosses voice mail, or else I have called a friend in work and asked them to pass on the message, and say I had tried calling them directly, but couldn't get through.

I reckon I might have actually done the deed myself just one or twice at most.

Now that I've had more time to think about it, I did call in sick twice for a job in college. Once when I was muchos hungover. I faked a sore throat, but they were really short-staffed so I came in anyway. Another time I rang in sick for that job because I had my girlfriend in my bed and didn't want to leave....

i had some health problem's last year and took advantage a couple of times after that but I always made sure to have a doctor's note
I called in twice so far in the last 6 months once for a real reason and once because I was drinking all night!

I would only ever call in sick if I was sick (not happened yet), though one day the snow kept me from going in for half a day (a truck crashed on the hill on the way to work, so thought better of driving to work till it had melted a bit :)).

In school i'd tend to suffer from Liar Liar syndrome, i.e. I would actually be sick, but if someone asked was I well enough to go to school, i'd find it very hard to say I wasn't well enough, after all, you just have to sit there :)
