While engaged in our usual Saturday Night training i.e attacking several bottle of Merlot and a couple of H Upmanns, the subject of crap in MA's came up. I have listed 10 pieces of advice for MA newbees

    Avoid

Instructors who says they teach military unit’s esp. special forces.
( Military units use weapons not H2H )

Instructors who use the words deadly, ultimate or battle proven, to describe their style ( The last H2H battle was in 200,000 BC, before early man discovered that a big rock in your hand is better that no rock. )

Instructors teaching secret arts ( If they are secret why are you teaching them and more importantly how did you discover them to learn it in the first place )

Instructors teaching a street fighting art ( What exactly is a streetfighting art Get pissed, get mob handed and bash the crap out of someone. )

Instructors who state they began training at 4 years of age ( most of us have difficulty tieing our shoe laces at that age never mind learning how to fight)

Instructors who are former world champions ( At last count approx 2.7 million)

Instructors who have lots of photos of themselves with other famous martial artists ( So what I have a photo of Mick Jagger dosn't mean I played in the band )

Instructors who promote themselves and their style based on how wonderfull the founder was. ( Again so what unless the founder is turning up to teach)

Instructors who teach multiple styles / systems and or have multiple black belts ( Most of us are flat out learning 1 style never mind 8 or 9 )

Instructors who teach a system to deadly to use in sparring / competition.
    ( How do you know ? )

I am sure that there are more but it time for my Sunday arvo session

I know a few guys in different styles who start at 4...one at 3, and their still at it, 40 years later....and would take your head off!

If I ever have a kid lad, as soon as he's 3 the training will start!
