    Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone had advice about travelling up the east coast of Oz. I have heard of the Oz Experience and the Greyhound and heard good and bad about both. Are these companies any good and which should I go for.

Also I was thinking of camper vans but unsure of the costs and the pros and cons

    Thanks

    SD

You can buy a road worthy wreck for the length of your trip and head north and sell it on at the end.If you look after it, you might even get more than you paid for it.
When we were there, the insurance shared amongst a few was cheap.

The pacific high way north along the East coast of Oz is a well travelled route and less isolated than the west. It's real back packer territory with lots of opportunities to explore.
You could take 2 weeks to get up to Cairns and the barrier reef area or a month and you'll still not be disappointed.Loads of places on the way, eg the wine country north of Sydney,Byron bay,the ridiculously ibizz-aesque areas south of Brisbane and then the barrier reef.
Oh I wish I was back there !

As there are so many Irish down there every year,I'm sure some others will give you more advice on the various companies etc.

While i think the east coast is a bit tacky etc, if your going to do it, i highly recommend what i did, buy a camper van and advertise for "one" person to share expenses along the way, you will get many offers, i chose the German blonde and believe me after a few days you won't be bored;)

First of all. Are you in Australia? If you are in Sydney there is a company called Wanderers. (http://www.wanderers-travel.com/index.htm)

I was in Oz 2 years ago and we used this company. Its all inclusive, you get nights in hostels along the coast all the way up, Fraiser Island and Whitsunday Islands. We met people on our Fraiser Island trip who paid $50 less for the trip than we did for our entire ticket for the east coast. Its a bit more expensive if you bus it. We drove and progressed up the coast at our leisure. For me the best value.

Enjoy your trip. You'll have the time of your life.

thanks for the advice lads. I have checked it out and no one has much to say about the Oz experience and we dont have enough time to but a camper and we dont have enough money to rent so...that leaves only the Greyhound by the process of elimination.

We did the Stray bus in NZ and it was excellent by the by

I actually done a stint the first time on Greyhound, 10 hour stint, chose the night buses, so basically sleep, ask for seats down the back, from my experience and what i heard there's usually a double seat or two empty down the back, so you can jump in and have a kip.
