    Pam: No, Michael

    (pause)

    Michael: 20 years

    Pam: No, Michael

    (pause)

    Michael: Thirty

    (Pause)

    Pam: Sure

Really the most consistent comedy on TV right now. 3 series in - it should be utter crap by now! But it's still absolutely hilarious stuff.

Just a top-notch cast and fantastic writing week after week - chuffed it did well at the Emmys this year.

And i feel sorry for the people who gave up on this when it first aired.. and dismissed it as a copy of Gervais and Merchant's original creation.

Love it love it love it.

"Ain't no party like a Scranton Party!"

"Andrea's the office bitch, you'll get used to her. Creed..." (shakes Meredith's hand).

Have episode 3 and looking forward to watch it after work:)

I did that after seeing the pilot :o I hated the concept originally, saw that the pilot was effectively a re-hash of the Gervais and Merchant script and didn't watch another.

Then some Boardsie here (basquille, I'm looking at you!) convinced me otherwise and it's my fave comedy at the moment probably, along with "My Name is Earl" and "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia".

After the first few shows it takes a life on its own.

I've said this a few times that I think the American verison is better. Thats probably because I've seen the all of the American version but only bits and pieces of the English. I think you have to give each one a fair go

I've seen all of the second series but found the first series a bit painful. Think they'd found their own style a bit more by the second series. I never really liked the British version anyway.

    Great 3rd episode, (S3)

Entirely different style to UK Office and comparisons are unfair at this stage of it's evolution as it's a lot more slapstick humour after 2 seasons.

It goes from strength to strength.

Oh and that new bird that fancies Jim- stone cold fox btw!!

Great deleted scenes to view at nbc.com also btw.

I really can't believe people watch this sh*te.... It's worse than Madonna's version of "American Pie", and Sheryl Crow's version of "Sweet Child of Mine" combined.....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,431 ✭✭✭Morgans

It is more of a sitcom than the UK office, not as subtle but it has a different focus, but different, more conventional, and better in some respects, (12 episodes of the office Uk all told remember) and one of the best comedies currently in production. As someone who has all seen all CYE (and Seinfeld episodes before they ever came out on dvd) the snobbish attitude of large numbers of CYE fans disappoints me greatly. As if appreciating a comedy without the help of a laughter tracks qualifies you as a genius. As a dyed in the wool Seinfeld fan, I have to say that the first two series of the program lacked much of the humour of something like the office. If the office US finds its feet in the same way as Seinfeld did about series 4, it could really take off.

I am comparing like with like - they're both terrible copies of a great original - maybe that was a bit too abstract for you....sorry you missed it.

I despise Seinfeld, but I love Curb - best programme ever made. Strange, but true.

That is beyond strange - it's just plain irrational IMHO

Seinfeld and Curb both mine from the same vein of humour. You get Larry but don't get George ? How does that work ?

Back on message - the US Office now stands on it's own, not just as a first cousin of the original. I continue to enjoy it, although I felt Dwight's punishment at the end of episode 3 was pushing credulity just a bit too far.

Yeah.. but in Jim's mind, it WAS a prostitute which he may have told Michael about..

Episode 3 was for the majority fairly average but had some great moments.. my favourite being the last shot of Dwight with the 'LIAR' sign round his neck! :D

Dwight scheming away was class and the treating Michael like a no body was class.

    The sign was very funny.

Another brillant part of the recent episode was the meeting regarding Call Of Duty.. the dialogue was brillant..

"We're being killed out there! Halpert.. what are you carrying?"
    "A sniper rifle"
    "A SNIPER RIFLE!!!"
    "You can't snipe and carry.."

Jim's face was priceless during that dialogue..!

EDIT: Well.. lookie what i found!

Better episode after last week and some great dialogue. For example...

Dwight: When my mother was pregnant with me, they did an ultrasound and found out she was having twins. When they did another ultrasound a few weeks later, they discovered that I had resorbed the other foetus.

Do I regret this? No. I believe his tissues made me stronger. I now have the strength of a grown man AND a little baby.

Anyone heard of this new Robin Williams movie "License to Wed"? According to IMDB it seems to have a lot of Office castmembers in it. Jim, Karen (the hot chick mentioned above), Angela, Kevin, Kelly and possibly a few others are in it.

Also, last night's rocked. I loved when they went around the conference room sharing their grief stories. The dialogue about wanting to build a robot was great too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,284 ✭✭✭wyndham

Aye, Pam is old news now.

Heres a pic of Rashida Jones.

What i'm noticing more about 'The Office' apart the fact it's still without doubt the funniest show on TV is it seems to be dividing responsibilities of writing / producing with it's co-stars.

Steve Carell wrote the season 2 finale. BJ Novak - who plays Ryan (the temp! :D) wrote 4 episodes (Boys and Girls, The Fire, Sexual Harassment, Diversity Day). Mindy Kaling - who plays Kelly - wrote 4 episodes (Take Your Daughter to Work Day, The Injury, The Dundies, Hot Girl). Is this the reason the writing in the show stays so fresh? Dividing the writing between both hired writers and actors / potential writers working on the show. Quite good thinking if this is th reasoning behind it.

Another very funny episode this week.. the little bits before the credits always kills me in the show. And this week was no exception. :D Dwight laughing at the freshness of it each time, and Pam's suggestion for coffee from the warehouse.

And loved the stuff n the conference room.. especially when people just starting describing movie plotlines! :D Kevin describing 'Weekend At Bernies' was classic. Michael's reaction to Toby telling him about the bird that died when it hit the glass downstairs - "you're not a veternarian... YOU DON'T KNOW ANYTHING!" :D And Dwight cramming bird parts into the can!

    Some great quotes too:

"A human can go several hours after being decaptiated.. you're thinking of a chicken!"
"I'm not sure how to was this.... Ed was decaptiated"
"BAM.. de-cap-a-detated from his head... you just spit on my face!"

PS - anyone else sense the lack of Oscar in this week's episode?

Indeed i have.. it's directed by Ken Kwapis who's a writer and producer on 'The Office' so like all good directors, they bring talent from their projects with them (Judd Apatow does it with every film he makes). And 'The Office' has possibly the most talented cast going for it than i've seen in a show for years.. each cast member has fresh delivery, their own little quirks and never fail to impress in their performances.

Don't know if it has Rashida Jones (Karen) is in it... but John Krasinski (Jim) has a starring role and supporting roles from Brian Baumgartner (Kevin), Mindy Kaling (Kelly) and Angela Kinsey (well.. Angela!)

    Ahhhh.. that's right.

Didn't make the the episode poorer by any means.. just something i noticed when they all talked about remembering the time a bird crapped on Oscar's head at the funeral? And Oscar wasn't there..

THe grief sessions was very good!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,836 ✭✭✭Vokes

Yes, enjoyed the grief session was very funny :)

Dwight's 'grief' story i mentioned above was great, as was Ryan's ...

Ryan: A few years ago, my family was on a safari in Africa and my cousin, Mufasa, was...he was trampled to death by a pack of wildebeasts and we all took it really hard. All of us, kind of in the audience, of what happened.

Michael: Do you want to talk about it anymore?

Ryan: Oh, it would probably take me like an hour and a half to tell that whole story.

    :D

100% Spoiler seeing as I am also referencing an earlier episode (the casino night one)...
When Dwight was comparing stuffing the bird into the can with burying his grandfather in an oil drum, and he finishes with something like "I would have fit everything in if I had more time" I was wondering for a second if he was talking about the bird or his grandfather.

Presumably this is the same grandfather whose tux he wore at the casino night and said "this tux was my grandfather's - they buried him in it".

    Never coped that.

Mind you he could've had 2 grandads. Shows like this dont really care about small things like that I would think. If it had been said in Lost then it might mean something

Hilarious episode.. another BJ Novak (Ryan) script of gold!

I don't know why but i laughed so hard when Pam held up the sheet of what Michael did all that: and 'Cosby Impression' was stuck in the middle of it alongside Michael saying "Hey hey hey.. i love Jello Pudding Pops..!"

"Attention: Scranton Business Park.. there will be complimentary pretsels in the lobby from now until 4 o' clock" - Stanley's face and then pacing quickly to the door - brillant! :D

"I'm gonna plant my seed in you....!"

    "What a pair of mary's!"

Oh... and a Lost reference.. i couldn't have asked for anything more from this episode.

PS - the whole Cardigans - 'Lovefool' was not at all lost on me. It's been the last song i've heard on the radio before leaving for work / college numerous times.. and it DOES stay in your head.

I loved when Mose ran past right at the corner of the shot. Like "Aliens" or something.

Dwight says "you must wrestle fear" and I only noticed later that Mose had "Fear" written on his shirt.

    Truly a classic.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 23,243 Mod ✭✭✭✭godtabh

    Just saw it there. Brilliant!

    Planting the seeds was class!

The awkwardness was unreal. If it was me (instead of Jim) I know who I'd pick!

The look on Michaels face when he heard the toppings was brilliant. Michael on sugar was brilliant.

Novak has been an exec producer from the start. He obviously has a lot of input other than just writing which is good for this show.

Love it, but is it just me, or have they abandoned the whole 'documentary' style that was its raison d'etre to begin with? The Office UK was a fly on the wall and certainly the first season of the US version followed that faithfully (1 camera, jerky movement, etc). But there's no way that a camera crew could/would do half the things that were possible in this episode (camera cuts, reaction shots, Dwight leaving Ryan (and a whole "camera crew") at the farm for example). I still love it, but it's now just got the look and feel of standard sitcom.

Disagree, look at any of the well known docusoaps, after a series or so they all tended to know what was happening. The camera crew knows that if Dwight says something out there, Ryan is going to look at the camera, so it just points it at him. The other point is that the UK version had 12 episodes and the xmas special. This one is well into its 30s now.

I like the camera angles on this show. Its true their not following a strict "documentry style" but I think it adds to the show. Otherwise it'd be like watching "Airport" or other s**** fly-on-the-wall shows.

Anyways found out a new episode won't be coming out this week. Ahhhh, I think I might go crazy!
