I bought a Sony Vaio from them in July and found them very good. The laptop cost about E250 less than it would it would have cost in the Sony Centre.
The only minor problem I had with them was that they somehow got the credit card number wrong.I only realised there was a problem when I checked the status of the order a day later and it was still 'awaiting payment'.The company themselves didn't bother getting in contact to inform me of the problem. However, once I rang them and sorted it out the laptop was delivered a couple of days later.
Since then, we have purchased another laptop from them and had no problems at all with that order.
I would definitely recommend them as their prices are great!

It looks like they had a fair few logistics problems going by that thread, buyer beware. What a shame.

I ordered a Sony Vaio from them 2 weeks ago but they really messed me around with delivery dates. Turns out they didn't even have the darn thing in stock and were waiting for it to come in. Also, the euro price they advertise is not correct. Use the sterling site and then use a currency converter to get a true price. I went to the Laptop Shop in Stephen's Green and they matched the price for me!

I thought the Laptop Shop in Dublin were quite expensive.... how much of a discount did they give you to match the laptops direct price?

Depends what you want to use it for. Dell have some very basic ones for a decent price.

the Acer laptops do seem to be quite inexpensive. but are they a good and reliable machine?

Acer make some of the best machines around. In fact they make a lot of parts etc for other brands so you can probably assume that you are using their stuff right now.

things must've changed so because I remember Acer used to make motherboards for IBM PC's for a while and there was nothing but trouble with them.

I am on my second Acer laptop and got a colleague another one from http://www.acernotebooks.co.uk and no problems to date. Acer do offer a lot more bang for your buck, you can buy an extended warranty if you wish.
