R132 - Airport to Swords lane removal - Crazy Muppets!!

Just coming down the R132 from the Airport, between the Cloghran Roundabout and Airside I just noticed that some crazy fúckers have decided to remove a lane in the swords direction.

Looking North the lanes have been changed from 1-2-1-1 configuration - (with the outside 1's being bus lanes) to 1-1-1-1.

Basically this means that the traffic that used to queue back towards Cloghran from Airside in both lanes is now crammed into 1. Add that to the quite frankly idiotic traffic lights at Airside gives you complete and utter gridlock.

What I want to know is which moron is in charge of road planning for that road? I need to compose a massive rant to the fúckwit responsible for the change.

Its obviously some muppet who hasnt ever been near the road in their lives, or who hasn't even bothered to measure the traffic flow on it.

What was wrong with the old 5 lane setup ffs?:mad:

    /Rant

Actually it used to be 2 normal lanes northbound, 2 normal lanes southbound and one buslane southbound. And it used to be grand, for a while about two months ago everyone drove at the 60 kmh limit in both lanes although everybody seemed to be doing 80kmh before these changes but that was find too as long as everyone was doing it.

Now they've taken out a lane on each side and everybody is tail gating the f*** out of each other. It's freaken horrible. Then you only get half the number of cars through the lights as you used to and likewise up at the roundabout on the other end.

It's nuts. Except when I'm on the bike. Into the empty buslane, piss down past all the traffic, nearly die when cars start diving at random into it from sheer frustration.

I can't figure how the benefits of these changes outwieght the cons. All they've done is make a perfectly good, reasonably safe road, smaller.

Sure theres now a buslane in the northbound lane, but the buses always shifted along there anyway. Oh theres going to be proper cycle tracks on each side.

I suppose it gets them off the footpath on the Northbound side of the road... I wonder whose going to use it now because the pedestrain traffic adds up to about twenty people per day.

Nah, I'm sure it makes sense some where and my seven minute commute is only twelve minutes at worst now in a car, probaly still six minutes or better by motorbike, bicycle is probaly the same at about 30 minutes but cyclings too dangerous for me hese days.

Actually it used to be one lane northbound and one lane southbound and that was before any of this motorway talk. Ah, the good old days. :D
    lidiotic traffic lights at Airside
They appear worse than normal at the moment because the Forrest(?) Road from Swords Main Street is closed forcing extra traffic up to Pinnock Hill. (I agree that the sequence seems a bit odd though).

Its great that cycle lanes have been put in - cycling from the Cloghran roundabout towards Airside was always a bit dodgy - there are drainage grates every few meters along that strech of road - i always had to cycle out a bit further from the kerb than normal, so i couls avoid them, so at least now i can do it and still be in a designated cycle lane as opposed to being on a main road.

But i agree that the addition of a bus lane with the removal of a car lane to be a bit crazy as it can get quite blocked up along that strech of road - but if you are driving along the motorway (northbound) - don't take the Airport exit continue on and theres an exit to Swords that comes into Airside which should take some of the traffic away.

Good news - the Forrest Road has been re-opened a week ahead of schedule - although given that the council gave themselves three months to lay 50m of pipe, that's no great achievement.

    Was on it today alright.

It doesnt have any markings currently and the main street is still blocked opposite the Roxy chipper.

To get to the other end of main street you've either got to go down past the Lord Mayors car park and round that sharp right hand junction, or carry on going past the church until you hit the rathbeale road.
