    Hi there
Just wondering if anyone knows of a family (preferably with teenagers) who'd be able to live without their mobile phones for a week? and be filmed/ or film themselves for TV? It's for a new TV show on RTE.

    any takers?
    thanks

Only RTE would commission that. We don't need RTE to tell us what would happen because we know. It would turn into one of those crappy 10-year old TV shows that a teacher taped and is now making us watch as part of CSPE in school. wtf

I guess what you're really looking for would be a family who couldn't live without their phones, but would be willing to try for the sake of a program. If they could all live without them it'd make pretty boring TV.

If you're taking away the phones you should consider taking the Xbox and Playstation as well, and maybe ban the Internet at the same time. Should make for some decent conflict. Something along the lines of Brat Camp or That'll Teach 'Em. Take away all mod cons and see how they cope.

Not that I'm a fan of reality TV, I hate all reality shows and wouldn't watch it.

sounds good, I'll pass it on.
a family of four would get €400 euro for the week

You should just give them new phones or something

Didn't Ch4 come up with this concept....a year or more back?

I recall shows about living without TVs, cars and other "modern necessities".
I believe they were titled "Can you live without your...?"; pretty sure mobile phones were covered...

I love original programming and I like paying for it even more...

Get a family of junkies and see if they can last a week without a fix.

And film them doing what exactly? Rocking themselves to sleep at night cos they're missing the late late show?

Jaysus why are yis all so bitter? 400euro for the week just for not living without your phone and you lot are complaining it's unorigional. Who cares? I would gladly do it if I could.

I saw this item on the new Seoige & O'Shea Show that started this week:

    http://www.rte.ie/tv/participation/livingwithout.html

Researches for the show are on Boards? Imagine the power boardsters could have to shape the face of afternoon TV!

Fairly week item but the show is a definite improvement over the Afternoon Show.

Well maybe when you've been bullied and harassed into forking out 150 quid for a TV licence you get a bit irked when all RTE can come up with is (badly)rehashed versions of programmes BBC, ITV and/or Channel 4 came up with several years ago.

House Hunters in the Sun - A Place in the Sun
The Dealers - That David Dickenson show...
Rachels Favourite Food - a very poor copy of Nigella Bites
Off the Rails - The Clothes Show

And now "Can you Live Without...?"

    That's why I'm bitter!

How would you make a TV show out of it if that Grainne Seoige thing on RTE is only going to get about 20 minutes of TV out of the whole week from it?

Saw the beginning of this on the Seoige and O'Shea show yesterday (couldn't stop laughing at the mother, what age does she think she is?!).
Being on tv and going without your mobile for a week, and seemingly having to video the thing yourself for €100 each?
    Thanks but no thanks.

The fact that RTE are commissioning yet another unimaginative copy-cat show doesn't depress me half as much as the notion that presumably there are actually people out there who would find it a challenge to go 7 days without their stupid mobile phones? :(

Hey, pay me my license fee back and I'll live without RTÉ for a week....can't say it'd make for interesting telly....except for me, maybe ;)

 When the family that gave up their phones for a week got them back on Seoige and O'Shea, Gráinne said that next week we'd be meeting another family who'd be attempting to live without TV!!!! Proof if ever I needed it that RTE/RTE's Marketing people are monitoring Boards rather than doing field research. KNEW IT!
