Seeing as we're on a bit of a Mercedes theme at present, anyone know of a W123 steering box available for reasonable cash or swap for other car parts? I know they can be got reconditioned from ECP or GSF - would be interested to know any any experiences with these. They can be got from Mercedes, new... but expensive.

Could I be so lucky as to find a rotten or crashed W123 with a good steering box? Does anyone know is the W126 box the same, so I can possibly widen the search?

The parts lits I have is for left hand drive cars and the steering box carries a
"126" part number whilst a lot of the linkages would have "123" numbers suggesting the box is different !

If you want parts Mark Cosovich in Wales will have whatever you want for this car, call him on 0044 1792846888. I know you'd fancy closer to home but if you are stuck..................

Why not rebuild it yourself ?

Good call re: Mark C. He's in Wales right? I have reason to visit Wales now and again so it could work. Thanks for the number.

Rebuild - I did some brief research and it seems the parts needed to rebuild are very expensive anyway, so no gain except to further technical understanding. I'll look into it some more though because I have another box on a spares car that I could rebuild.

I have a 1982 W123 200 auto with a tatty, rusty body, great interior, engine (102 type, rebuilt down to oil pump), gearbox (changed filter and oil), linkages, diffs etc all good. Was driving well when parked up 5/6 years ago. Tinted windscreen, rear seat belts. Blue in colour. Great donor car if you have a good body.

    PM me if interested.

Sounds like a good plan, esel, but I have other prospects already.
