    Next week's schedule includes

    Sopranos series 1
    24 series 1
    American Dad series 1
My name is Earl series 1 (picking up from where they dropped it earlier)
    House series 1

Works for me - keeping an eye out for Deadwood series 1, or even OZ

i don't see 24 being a very big draw, it was a real in the moment with massive twists each week, it'd be like watching the sixth sense again, you know whats coming

have Channel 6 got the rights to Oz?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 578 ✭✭✭30txsbzmcu2k9w

i doubt channel 6 will screen Oz, they strike me as a little too 'TV3-ish' for that kinda stuff.
On the plus side i saw Oz season 1 in HMV the other day for 30 quid.

Ha! When TV3 start showing stuff like House, The Sopranos, Heroes, American Dad!, Seinfeld and My Name Is Earl let me know, it might make it worth pressing 3 on my TV...

I'd have to press 103, which is something I don't think I've ever done.

Maybe, but there's still a lot of people who've never watched 24, or who've only seen bits of it or joined in last season. It could get good viewing figures, for Channel 6 anyway. I only just bought series 1 on DVD and am looking forward to watching it again, going to wait till the end of the current series though as that would be too much to handle! I can barely remember how it went at this stage so I think there'll be quite a few twists and turns even for a 2nd viewing.

I echo the Oz sentiments too, it would be nice to see that on again. Must look out for cheap DVDs.

Is it the beginning of Season 1 of 24? I was going to try buy it on the cheap, but if it's just starting then I may as well Sky+ it!

[edit]Just saw that this thread is old old old...[/edit]

Though TV3 is mostly crap, it did introduce me to Arrested Development so I can´t complain.

As for 6, when I didn´t have it I kept seeing it in the schedules and it seemed to have plenty I wanted to watch, but now I have it I´m not all that bothered.

im only really watching My Name is earl on it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,113 ✭✭✭cailinoBAC

Actually, I want to see the American Office. Will they be showing that again?

When I think of Channel 6 I think of how I watch a hell of a lot more programmes on that than RTE, and I pay for feckin RTE.

Channel 6 may be derided for repeats and American Imports, but I'm always hearing how American shows are better than ours, so whats the problem.

Although I am pissed that they went straight into Season 2 of My Name Is Earl without any publicity of warning. Listen up channel 6, the reason most people didn't watch Earl season one was because we pretty much saw it 17 times on Channel4/E4, so we kinda weren't too bothered to keep an eye on.

NOW, if you told us you were showing NEW episodes of Earl before anyone else in Europe we would be impressed, might even buy you a pint, but you got lazy and I won't be surprised if you cut the season in half and do a House.

And one thing I am thankful for is them showing NCIS at at reasonable hour. 7 on a Saturday is great for me, watch a little American fluff and bang off to the pub for the night. Nice! Even better when I first got into the series on RTE when they decided to show their nice new American acquisition at 7 in the morning. Memo to RTE, no one is conscious at 7 in the morning. That time is for Eamonn Holmes and childrens cartoons.

And what really annoys me you ivory towered assholes is when I graciously visit your website, click on a link for NCIS and have the entire first two season spoiled for me. And being the anal idiot I am, I emailed them with a nice little comment, and so far nothing has been changed and I recieve no reply.

Oh, well, I guess once I get my block of 7th Heaven, Dawson Creek and Charmed I should calm down. Well, should.

Gonna get crapper people! Access Hollywood, Take 6 And Pop 20 have all been cancelled ive heard! What the hell are they doing in there? Its turning crapper now!

Wow, had no idea C6 were planning that. And they ain't even a year old yet. Access Hollywood is a waste of space, more fitting for some arse end channel of Sky Digital. Take 6 is pretty decent, but useless in comparison to TV3's Popcorn which dispenses with the pretty, but not needed, host and just gives us the movies. The music shows are a bit laughable, hardly worth the attention, especially considering that Phantom FM probably has that audience sewn up by now.

As for their games show, added together, those two presenter hadn't a brain cell between. The production value was terrible. In fact, I honestly believe C6 should let idiots just out of art college to produce programmes for them and charge them a few for broadcasting their work. It can't be any worse.

But once again, we don't pay for C6 and we don't have to watch. They have a few decent shows and that is that.

You have once again fallen into the bracket of ignorance that many do. As you said channel 6 is FREE, the Programmes which were cancelled mean the loss of IRISH Jobs. Its people's attitudes like yours that are partially responsible for these people losing their jobs. If you dont like a programme dont bloody watch it, but the loss of irish jobs in the media is never a good thing for anyone whether they be amateur or professional

Hey, live by the sword die by the sword. I'm not saying I'm happy with these people losing their jobs, if indeed they are, but if the programmes are not getting the numbers then there is little point in their continued existence. None of the presenters add anything to their respective shows that demands their presence.

And in most cases you'll find that they have other jobs with other media organisations. However, much like TV3, Channel 6 would be at a loss not to have Irish presenters as part of their schedules. And not them simply standing in a tiny studio or against a green screen. More variety and more scope.

Do you actually watch or like any of the programmes threatened with the chop?

I think the problem is just that. People are not watching these shows. So if nobody is bothered to see what Channel 6 currently has to offer with shows presented by actual Irish presenters then they need to revise their intentions.

Most new channels change the format and lineup after their first year. And Channel 6 is only a year old. So obviously they feel that the lineup needs to change. And in a way it is to be expected.

As for the Free to Air thing, yes you might pay for your cable or satelite connection, but thats just nitpicking. By that rationale, we technically also pay for TV3 programming because they can apply for License Fee funding for certain programmes.

Channel 6 is a young channel and needs to adapt. They can't get everything right on the mark at the first attempt. Who knows, maybe a change in the lineup and new irish programming will be good for the show and they can build on the strengths of decent shows such as Take 6. But it will take them time to find their feet.

I mean, look at TV3. After almost 9 years in operation it still hasn't fufilled its grand promises of Irish programming and still relies heavily on imports. Take for example their new showbiz gossip show which they are trumpeting at the moment. It's basically a bigger budget version of Access Hollywood but with a more Irish focus.

I like Channel 6, I like its underdog status and I wish it success, because the stronger the independent channels are the more pressure there is on RTE and the rest of the market to respond with better programming.

"You're watching Access Hollywood. We'd pause for the Angelus if we had time, but we don't"

    Go on ya rebels.

The Access Hollywood presenter is like Nuala Carey but without big words. I'm not sure if it's actually an Irish production - looks to me like one of those shows they show on the smaller Sky channels (Sumo etc), where they buy the show without the narration and add it in themselves.

They need to drop their cheapskate entertainment news and music shows and put on some real programmes - News, Sport, etc.

They could start by investing in a studio :p

I think it might be rather difficult for them to set up and develop an in-house studio and production area. I'm sure it is part of their long term plans.

As for the News and Sport thing, I think RTE and TV3 pretty much have all that covered and it would be a waster of their resources to produce a high quality and expensive news and sport strand. After all, Channel 6 is targeted more as an entertainment channel.

Plus, Setanta Sports seems to have the whole sports thing covered, so Channel 6 would be fighting a losing battle to get decents sports coverage on their channel. That said, maybe Channel 6 and Setanta could do a cross promotion deal, with some news programmes or highlight being aired in Channel 6. Unlikely, but about as likely as Channel 6 getting news and sport coverage on their channel in the near future.
