Skype-I can't be heard! Help!!

    Just got a VoIP phone, installed it and registered with Skype etc. so I can talk to my hubby when he's in the US for the next 4 months. :(

    But big problem! I rang him on his mobile and I could hear him perfectly! But he couldn't hear a thing from me... just the odd bit of strange "computery" twangy noises, but mostly silence.

    I tested the hardware and it's fine... both speaker and mic.

    The only thing is that when I was installing the phones software I got an error message:

    "The file usbccgp.sys on Windows XP Home edition Service Pack is needed..."

    But of course I don't have the disks as my PC came with XP already installed. Could this be the problem???

    Please help as he's off tomorrow!

    Go to www.voipstunt.com and stick €11.60 into an account. You can use the "callback" feature to set up a phone call between your home phone and his phone in the US - your phone will ring, pick it up and his phone will start to ring.

    5c for the call setup, and 300 minutes a week free, and no messing about with headset, USB phone handsets, etc.

    Are you on dialup or broadband? Do you have XP Service Pack 2 installed?

    Hi Foxwood! Thanks for helping me out - again!

    I'm on Clearwire wireless broadband.

    Sorry but I don't have a clue if I have Service pack 2 installed or not! :rolleyes: I just got that message about usbccgp.sys when I was installing the phones software. (Don't actually have a home phone, just this internet phone which would be grand if people could hear me talking! Do you think it's to do with that file???

    I'm all at sea about this flippin' Skype thing!

    And I just had a look at my System Info and according to that the usbccgp.sys (kernel driver) is started...
    Start mode - manual,
    State - running,
    Status - OK,
    Error control - normal,
    Accept pause - No,
    Accept Stop - Yes.

    Does that sound O.K???? :confused:

    You're probably not in the best forum for getting advice on this issue, because you don't have a VoIP problem, you have a USB hardware/software issue.

    I'd suggest that you cut your losses, and just buy a regular PC micropone. Your best bet is a headset microphone (because you sometimes get echoing if you just use a microphone wih your PCs speakers).

    Got one already!

    I have reinstalled Skype and tried out the headset. When I do the Skype test call to record my voice and play it back, it's fine. I can hear what I have just said. But then when I ring someone they can't hear me at all.

    Should I post this somewhere else??

    If you can't be heard using a headset, then I guess this is the right forum. (I don't use Skype, so I can't offer any advice).

    Have you used Skype to call another Skype user - I presume you're having a problem with "Skype-out"?

    Have you tried voipbuster.com or voipcheap.com or voipstunt.com? I know that you can do a test 1 minute call using the callback method, but I don't know if you can do a free test from the computer to a phone number. (the free test call is only one minute long).

    Just tried out voipbuster.com but having the same problem more or less but I can now hear very faint garbled noise, certainly can't hear any words.

    I'm beginning to think it's a Clearwire problem.

    But will check out a skype to skype call to see if that works... though I'm not hopeful. :mad:

    I have had a quick look at the ports used by Skype during a call set-up and conversation. Multiple ports are involved, using both UDP and TCP packets. One wonders if Clearwire is selectively blocking some of these ports causing your call to end up with a one way connection?

    Your successful calls to echo123 may involve slightly different ports/protocol types that are aren’t blocked.

    Have you tried using Skype with a dial-up internet connection (and Clearwire switched off) to prove that your Skype set-up is 100%? Have you contacted Skype’s support people via their website?

    If there is a sneaky way to break Skype, you can be sure the engineers at Clearwire will find it! They are the Microsoft of the wireless internet business! Their corporate headquarters are both located in the same damp metropolitan area. Perhaps it is the climate of the area that breeds such dysfunctional behaviour?!

    Can't try dial-up as I don't have a phoneline! That's why I went wireless in the first place. Just wish I'd gone for Digiweb instead.

    And yes, contacted Skype and am waiting for a reply. Also contacted Clearwire and again waiting for a reply. Will phone them tomorrow just to get the heart rate going and blood pressure up on a Monday morning!!

    Then it might have to be Comreg.

    Even if you get Skype to work in any shape or form with Clearwire, it will work poorly. The same goes for SIP-based VoIP. Get yourself a proper broadband provider. I haven't used Digiweb but it can't be worse than Clearwire.

    VoIP doesn't work particularly well with wireless - even when just using WiFi with a strong signal in a home environment. There is no substitute for DSL / Fibre / Cable / Ethernet when it comes to a broadband connection that you can use for all applications. .probe

    Clearwire block all VOIP traffic
    YOu need to badger them to get them to open VOIP ports for you....
    (Which they might too temporarily allow - but then disallow randomly afterwards)
    As others have stated - you need to dump clearwire in favour of a proper Broadband provider if you want to use Voip
