Lots of different factors! How old you look, bouncers mood, people you're with...

On campus events shouldn't be too bad, although you will have a lovely yellow (probably) stripe across your ID until you turn 18.

It wasn't a problem for me. That was five years ago though. I was blessed with the ability to grow a beard at 17. If you can do that, do it because you'll get away with mucho underage drinking. </rose tinted glasses>

Edit: Unless you're a chick, then you won't have to worry about it </red misted bitterness>

Lots of the spots the kids attend people are routinely checked for id. The Likes of 21 etc. always seem to be asking for id. Some of the pubs, doyles etc. you should be able to sneak your way into. good luck.

So for four years it went from bad to worse, and then as soon as I leave they get a nice colour? There really is no justice in this world.

On another note, why does the academic diary look so bloody awful? I've only seen a thumbnail, but it looked like some seriously tacky 80's magazine cover.
Why can't they do something like the prospectus? Now that's a classy cover.

Just dress really snazzy, look directly at them as you're walking in, nod/howaya. When they ask, and then say that you're 23 (acting surprised helps as well).

    Good luck!

Well, they have us in now, so they don't need to woo us with shiny prospectuses. Agreed though: the diary does look a bit, eh, cheap. I only ever use it for checking dates of events, anyway. I got a Filofax for this year. It looks like it's going to be handy.

    Green. It appears they're green.

Balls, they were green about three years ago. I want a pimped out black with gold lettering, 20 inch wheels and a 28 inch plasma display and a fish tank. Get with the times TCD.

I meant black ID card. not african american.

Yeah, though it's a different green apparently.

On the topic on whether it is difficult to get into events in freshers' week, yeah it can be tricky. You might get in if you go early, or if you have a beard (as was said), but it really is pot luck if you're under 18. Most places will be looking for garda ID/Passport/Drivers Licence anyways.

But you might be ok during the daytime (except the Pav as I remember them checking during a previous Freshers' Week, but if you feel up to it you could sneak booze in).

As an anecdotal method for getting drink before, I used to head into the Buttery before 8pm as the security people/bar folk used not to ask then, or that the security weren't on the door then. Once inside, I asked some friends to obtain me some. With the Buttery not open that much this year, it might get a bit iffier.

Now, I hope no-one else will be doing this of course, as all I'm is just providing interesting anecdotes.
