CPU / Motherboard Problem

    Hi,
I'm trying to 'revive' a disused PC to give to my Brother-in-law and first I found the Power-Supply was dead - easily replaced! Then I found that it would start but NOT run - going in to Setup or trying to start Windows XP SP2 - I seemed to have only 90 -120 seconds before everything 'Froze'!! The CPU fan is running properly and nothing on the Motherboard seems 'unduly' warm.
It's got an AMD 2.2GHz CPU and 512 MB of RAM @333 MHz and its running on a VIA MS 6832E Ver 3 Motherboard with a 350W replacement Power-Supply.

What's wrong? How can I fix it?

this may sound silly but check to make sure theres no dust or dirt around the processor ....AMD's tend to over heat alot...simple i know but worth a shot before u try something that might not be needed :D

( speaking from experience  )

Thanks 8T8 - I've tried twice to replacethe RAM - same performance with 250, 500 or 750 MB combinations of RAM sticks [without using any one stick in each combo!]

Thanks mizwizzy - first thing I tried was to clean the CPU Fan and radiator - it temporarily stopped the whole gizmo [I mean NO response to power-switch]! That was part of the reason I felt the CPU might have some internal fault or external bad connection... At that stage I even tried changing the Graphics card and the Monitor to be sure they weren't to blame!
