I had the radio version and it was complete muck, it was ment to have a 300 meter range in a built up area but in reality it only had 20 meters

I found when I had it it made me even more paranoide about the bike being messed with.

But the tracking option would be a nice addition.

I see it clocks in at about £200 sterling. All the spec sheets that I have seen say it has an Orange sim in it.

I presume it is basically a mobile phone and works by sending txt msgs so I would again presume that one could replace the sim with an Irish operator one and achieve the same functionality.

Of course, that is provided it is not a sealed unit.

It is something I would be interested in and may see if anyone at the NEC has any info on it.

I had a good read of the Installation manual, and it looks to be a sealed unit, with an Orange SIM. Im sure you could open it up and replace the sim, but do ye really wanna spend 200 sterling and find you cant replace it.
Also for the location service to work (if you are in the UK) you gotta pay em £29 a year for the subscription.
Gonna mail em and see do they offer a solution for Ireland.

    That was quick!
    Got a reply from Datatool,
"The Text Alert (Snitcher) operates on a UK Orange SIM card (Pay as you go), this card only works in the UK. If you would like to purchase the Text Alert for your country, this is what you need to do.
Once you have purchased the Text Alert, you will need to replace the SIM card with your country's alternative pay as go card. Then register this card with the mobile phone company, as you would normally do. Then follow the steps in the user guide to train the Text Alert to your phone. It should be functioning properly from this point on.
Please be aware that the Snitcher Locate service only operates in UK & Northern Ireland."

    So there ya go..

Nah, you just have to plead bitterly to O2/Vodafone/Meteor/3 and the gardai to track the sim.

Cheers Doktor, for getting the info out of DataTool.

Which is a great idea NedNedNed, until the phone gets logged with water. Ideally you want several sensors :

    Movement
    Voltage Drop
    Motion

The combination of DIYing all of these could just be cheaper to have a pre-wired one!
