 OK,my problem is my pc simply wont dial ANY of my modems right.
First the modem in the pc stopped working so i just tought it gve up & went and bought a USB one.
So after letting the pc do its work Recognise the new device and waited it for it to tell me "ready for use" i then went and made a new dial up connection & sellected the new modem etc etc.....and same thing,NO DIAL TONE.
My laptop works fine on the line, even with the new modem ! so the device is ok.
I have tried everythin i can think of,i pressed f2 on start up and went into them settings and i think it was the load defaults option and saved that and tried it again but still no go.
Tried taking the Battery out of the board inside and starting the pc up again and still no joy,i even went into DEVICE MANAGER and uninstal the modems (1 at a time) and let the pc Recognise new device and still no joy.
The pc is powering up the modem but just trys to dial and all i get is NO DIAL TONE.

    So any help is gratful,

    Thanks

    (Windows XP Pro)

Is the old modem removed from the PC? Under the Phone and Modem options in Control Panel, Select Properties and then try and Query the modem and see if you get a response.

Are you using a phone cable directly to the phone or with a splitter (phone+cable from pc into main phone socket)?

edit sorry Original post was thinking wrong.

em...Theres a box that says wait for dail tone before dialing in the modem tab of the controlpanel/modem. is it ticked on yours?

Ive been raking my brain but cant see why it wouldnt work on your pc if it works on your laptop....

Is your old modem uninstalled? it could be trying to use that as default maybe.

no its talking to the modem allright, theres 4 lights on the usb modem.one for when its connected to the pc....then a second one comes on when you hit the dial tap.....then the others are meant to come once you a connection

this is quite puzzling paul.... so this USB modem works fine on the laptop and the other puter..... hmm you also said that the installation of the modem was fine.....ie found new hardware all drivers went in fine.... no yellow exclamation marks...... so far so good...

Then you made an internet connection, dialup... and you got the error no Dial Tone.... hmm to me this says that there is some connectivity issue around the USB port perhaps... have u tried other ports on your pc?

Just another idea, in your dialup connection properties, look for the dialing options and make sure it is set to Tone Dialing and not Pulse Dialing.
