Overheating AC Adapter

I'm guessing this is the right forum, if not, sorry.

Anyway, about 3/4 weeks ago the original AC adapter on my Fujitsu Siemens amilo L(7300 i think) broke. So i bought a 3rd party universal adapter, the "Trust PW-1300p Notebook Power Adapter".

This worked fine for a while until i had to fiddle with it to get it to work. Then the connection at the laptop started to get really hot when it had to charge the battery and power the laptop at the same time. I tried adjusting the voltage but on lower voltages it just takes longer to charge the battery or doesn't charge it at all. With the power cutting out ocassionally and me having to fiddle with it again:rolleyes:

Is this likely to be the laptop or the adapter? Can anybody give me some advice please or recommend a better adapter?

I'm fairly certain it is the AC adapter, is it the same wattage as the old one, do you remember?

if your laptop is the amilo l7300, then the original ac is rated 20V/65W, which is about 3A output, but the trust at 20V is outputting 6A, which could be causing the overheating problem when the laptop is running as it has to re-regulate the power inputs for charging and running the laptop, hence its running hot

Yeah, i have it set at 20V but the wattage from the adapter is 120W so i'll look for an adapter with the right output.

    Thanks for the info:)

EDIT: Can anybody recommend an adapter or where to get one?
