    Hi all.

I have a honda shadow 125. I will be doing the test soon after a very long wait. The bike is registered in the wife's name. She doesn't have insurance on it. However, my car policy covers me to drive someone elses bike. I was able to tax the bike using my own insurance cert.

My question is what documentation do they require in the test center to allow me to take the test? Will they look for a valid insurance cert in the wifes name? The bike is taxed. It is registered under the wife. Looks like my policy is covering it. Otherwise, it looks like costing me the bones of 500 euro.

    Appreciate all replies.

    Ted.

All they ask you for is your licence and to see the tax disk. If you do the test on a 125 thou you'll be restricted to an A1 licence and will have to get a new prov and do the test again if you want to get anything bigger. You'd be better renting a 250 and getting an A licence. Good luck with the test.

However, my car policy covers me to drive someone elses bike.

Check the small print, this might only apply when the bike is registered and insured in someone elses name.

Cheers lads. I think I'll chance on and see what happens. I'll let you know the story.

When you do the test, you are asked to sign a declaration that you are insured to drive the vehicle for the purposes of the test. You don't need to provide proof of that insurance.
