    Hi,

just wondering if anybody has advise on how to get a SKY+ box repaired in Ireland that has a problem recording. The box itself is out of warranty.

It comes up with the message Sytem Fault, problem recording etc when you try
to record anything. I did do a system reset and rang Sky but the problems still
    exists.

Would replacing the hard drive fix the problem or is there more to it than that?

    Might fix it.
You need a suitable IDE drive, compatibility more important than exact storage size.

i had same problem and my final solution after trying all other suggestions offered by sky was to have them send an engineer at a cost of €108 wether box needed replacing or not. The box did need to be replaced but the €108 covefed it all.

You can try a Hard Disk check.

Unplug the box at the mains. Press and hold the left and right arrow buttons on the front of the box. Replug the box whilst holding the buttons. After about 20 seconds of holding the buttons the red and green lights on the front of the box will come on. Press Select on the front of the box. The green lights will spin for 20 seconds. Then, if the red(record) light comes on your hard disk is screwed and you'll have to replace it, if the green(play) light comes on your box will reformat, power off then power back on and should work fine.

If this process doesn't work you'll need a repair.

    Perform a planner rebuild.

Press Services, 4, 0, 1, Select (Note: There is no option 0 shown but follow the steps anyway and you will see the installers menu). There is an option there to do a planner rebuild which should sort out your free space issue.

If it's just the hard disc and you know what you're doing (it's not too difficult) €108 would get you a 160Gb or possible bigger one.
