More of a Real fan myself but can't resist posting this:

    Pure fantasy stuff!

I knew they played some great matches down the years and some not included here but jeez it's hard to keep track of all the ridiculous comebacks and incredible goals from Stoichkov / Romario / Ronaldo etc.

Someone remind me to never miss an Atl. Madrid Barca game again!

    Great stuff indeed.

I had my first taste of live Spanish football last Sunday night when I was in Madrid. We went to Athletico v Sevilla. Pretty passionate fans out there. I have to say that I was surprised with the performance of 2 different players: Fernando Torres, although he set up the second goal for Athletico, he looked like he had no interest and I wasn't a bit impressed with him. Freddie Kanoute: absolutely brilliant in the first half. Looked like the only threat and it was only when he was taken off in the second half that Athletico got stronger and eventually equalised before snatching it at the death. Maybe it was tactical (Sevilla were down to 9 men) but for me he was their best player.

Great experience to be there though

It looks like an ad for an Alan Hansen dvd of "Terrrribbllee Defending"

Good to see that the tradition of the dodgy Barcelona goalie is not just a recent
thing, although there were some cracking goals in it, especially Guardiola's. Louis Van Gaal has a lot to answer for.

I know Ronaldo has done a fair bit in his career, but think of the age he was in that, and what he could have done if he hadn't had injuries, and been so determined to become the fattest player on record.

Once every blue moon (in theory), when there is an absolutely epic league game, Marca used to stick it onto a video and give it away free during the following weeks. Some Spanish mates of mine have 3 or 4 Barca-Atléti from the 90s alone.

That compilation doesn't even do them justice. Their past 22 league meetings have produced 87 goals - an average of almost 4 goals a game - not even taking into account the cup games which included a 5-4 1st leg win for Barca in 1996. Although clearly 93-98 were the glory years averaging 5.6 goals a game! I'd be very suprised if there's any fixture in World football that can top that.

    93/94 Atl 4 Barca 3 Barca 5 Atl 3 Total 15 goals
    94/95 Atl 2 Barca 0 Barca 4 Atl 3 Total 9 goals
    95/96 Atl 3 Barca 1 Barca 1 Atl 3 Total 8 goals
    96/97 Atl 2 Barca 5 Barca 3 Atl 3 Total 13 goals
    97/98 Atl 5 Barca 2 Barca 3 Atl 1 Total 11 goals
    98/99 Atl 1 Barca 1 Barca 0 Atl 1 Total 3 goals
    99/00 Atl 0 Barca 3 Barca 2 Atl 1 Total 6 goals
    02/03 Atl 3 Barca 0 Barca 2 Atl 2 Total 7 goals
    03/04 Atl 0 Barca 0 Barca 3 Atl 1 Total 4 goals
    04/05 Atl 1 Barca 1 Barca 0 Atl 2 Total 4 goals
    05/06 Atl 2 Barca 1 Barca 1 Atl 3 Total 7 goals

Great goals from some great players. I was always a big fan of Luis Enrique, never rated Kiko though- how he got in the Spanish team i'll never know.
Luis Enrique is a legend but it really annoyed me the way he left Real on a free transfer then frequently scored against them. I always liked Kiko and he was constantly linked with a move to Newcastle during Dalglish's reign.
Found a great goal on that site that i haven't seen for ages, did Roberto Carlos mean this?? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXAfnFeCd1s
That goal was scored in Real's 4-3 defeat to their bogey team Tenerife in 1998 a few months before they beat Juventus to lift the Champions League. I remember watching the highlights on TG4... incredible game! I presume Carlos was simply trying to get as much pace on the cross as possible and it just swerved in. Unbelievable goal nevertheless.

Nadal was a rubbish defender but his nephew, Rafael, is a phenomenal tennis player!

Suprised to hear that about the Valencia game considering their recent rivalry. Maybe u were in the wrong section of the stadium and unable to properly gauge the atmosphere given it's size... do Barca not have an answer to the Madrid Ultras?

Not a bad footballer either, he played in one of those charity matches at the Bernabau. :)

I was in a bad part of the stadium for atmosphere but its easy to see/hear where the atmosphere is coming from, yes they have ultras of sorts but there were only a handful at both games, think it may have been a midweek game though.
