I bought a samgung har-drive 120GB. I have installed the hard-drive no problems and it is detected in BIOS and it is also showing up in Device Manager and showing that it is running no problems.

I need to format the new hard-drive. The problem is that it is not showing up in my computer under a E: drive or D: Drive and im at a loss. I can see the floppy drive, Local C: drive and DVD/CD, but no new hard-drive.

Any help would be very grateful:o

right-click on My Computer -> Manage -> Disk Management
You should be able to format and assign letters.

Ok, there is Disk 0 basic 18.61GB

Disk 1 has a red dot over it and it says its unknown with 31.49GB Not Initialized.

Im not sure what to do next?

I right clicked on Disk: 1 and it shows online with 31.49GB

Its still not showing up in my computer yet.

Have you any drive saying ~108GB as that is what a 120GB drive should appear as and not 18.61GB or 31.49GB.

Try and initialise(right click on Disk1) the 31.49GB drive and then format it to see if that clears up the mess.

Also do a "Print Screen" of your "Disk Management" screen so we know what were dealing with.

Thanks for the replys. I fixed the problem last night. I removed the jumper from the slave and formatted the drive using fdisk in dos.

    Wait a minute:
"Where's me jumper? Where's me jumper? Where's me jumper?
Where's me jumper? Where's me jumper? Oh no!"
    :)
