From a few forums I have seen good reports of the Sigma 70-300 4-5.6 APO.

www.cam-ireland.com have a reasonable stock. Some good Hong Kong dealers on ebay, do a search on this forum for who people recommend.

Get a copy of Amateur Photographer, lots of ads for www.ajpurdy.co.uk and loads of other UK dealers who will deliver to Ireland.

Are you looking to replace kit lens or something to complement it?
Tamron 28-75 2.8 meant to be nice too, but lacks the wide angle on digital format.

no no, i dont want to replace it the lense is great, to be honest im after a couple of lenses over the next few months so i can vary my pictures. a decent long lense like an 80-200 or similar and a macro. the fisheye i was looking at is like 800 euro and thats a bit out of my price range for the moment.

but these are all nikkor and quite pricey and im looking for cheaper alternatives that are compatible with the d80.

edit.... thanks for the link to ajpurdy nice site.

any lend reccommended for the d200/d70s/d50 will work a treat with the d80, molc just got the two new nikon lens, the 18 - 200 with vr and the new marco one, cant remember off hand, ask him bout them, they appear to be the shizzle at the mo

only got the 18-200 so far, but its pretty much all i need for non-macro stuff. I've got the 105mm macro on order.

However, at around 800 squid each they're not cheap.
