Formatting a removable drive

I have a 2GB RS-MMC flash memory card and am trying to format it with Windows XP. It is new, out of the box but i dont know if it is damaged or not.
When i click on the drive windows says it is not formatted as usual but the formatting window shows 3.88GB instead of 2GB which is wrong. Then it fails to format.

I have searched the internet for information on this and found a Microsoft article here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=303582

This tells me to try using the command-line to format the card which i did. But i get this message:
    G:\>format F: /FS:FAT /V:
Insert new disk for drive F:
    and press ENTER when ready...
The type of the file system is RAW.
The new file system is FAT.

default cluster size is being used.
    Proceed with Format using a 64K cluster (Y/N)? Y

As you can see it still thinks it is 3.88GB instead of 2GB.

i am using a Belkin 8-in-1 USB card reader. This comes with special formatting software so i also tried this. This software correctly identifies the card as 2GB but reports an error erasing sector 0 when it tries to format.

Is there anything else i can check? Do you think the card is faulty?

Sorry, but i just solved it right after the post.
I found a third memory card reader(from one of my work colleagues) and this worked no problems. It seems the other memory card readers did not support 2GB.
