Correct me if I'm wrong but haven't BT and Eircom customers recieved a speed upgrade around Feb/March each year over the past two? I think we went from 512k>2mb>3mb.

Is it likely we'll recieve a further boost over the coming months?

Not in the next couple of months anyway because they are lowering their prices next month.

    That would be good news.
Can you shed some more light on that i.e. sources etc.

best quality tel. lines in ireland that i have ever seen can handle just over 4meg. 4060000 bytes being the exact number given on our line testing system.

That being the highest available, think 3 meg is offered as most as 4meg the lines simply are not capable of handling it and people would just complain about the service not actually being 4 meg.

But yeh as i say i test lines through our individual system in work to many times in a day to think about, and even businesses i havent seen get over that number.

Funny that, seeing as both BT sales and Eircom have told me that my line could handle at least 6 meg. Mmmm.
You're right about the lines though. They're struggling as it is. The thing that annoys me is people are being sold these 4 & 5meg products and Eircom (in particular) know full well that their lines can't handle them.

DemonOfTheFall, I have a sneaking suspicion that ADSL2+ is closer than we think.

I have tested lines all around the country and i work for residential side of BT, the highest ive ever seen is just over 4meg from a line test (the 4060000 digit being the most common) sometimes less depending on where in ireland exactly, some rural areas are bb enabled but can handle 256000 at best on the lines.

not sure about the corporate side of the business though so can only quote really on residential, can i test your line? :D
