Was in shopping centre today and there was a chap with a Sky stall. He was tellin me that Sky+ had just been dropped in price (on Friday 22nd) to €69 and Sky HD had also been dropped in price, think he said €299 for that, just wondering if anyone else had heard this and if there's any truth in it?

The reason I ask is because I just oredered Sky+ and was hit for €225 for it and would be well pi$$ed off if this was the case :(

I'm gonna be ringin them Monday to find out!

On their website it still says Sky+ is €149, and SkyHD is still €449.

I just got my Sky+ multiroom for 69€ two weeks ago, Got sky+ and astandard box for 69 euro Extra(for sky+ box ) and then 15 euro extra for multiroom permonth.

I was also considering the Sky HD box, It was 299Euro. I am glad I didn't, Looking at the channel list there is only a few HD channels and TBH running this Sky box with a decent scart and in RGB mode is quite impressive compared to non-RGB and using cable TV like NTL. There is a mighty difference. So I'd imagine the Standard box's or sky+ boxes are good enough until the pricing for sky HD becomes realistic.

Got It all installed this week, Had a very good Installer. Very generous with cable and took him nearly the guts of 3 hours, Really did his job well.

Everything went as planned as originally arranged, They told me 2 weeks for installation and so it was, They came after ringing the day before to arrange a time for installation.

Overall I am very impressed with the picture quality on my LCD and overall service very good. Havn't had one anoying problem yet.

Bit of advice ; I was speaking to a Customer representitive about the pricing on boxes and he told me when ever I am getting a quote over the phone, Always quote " You seen that online, the box was €299 or €69 etc... " They will sell you the box over the phone for that price online if you mention it to them.

Yeah if you think you are paying over the odds with any of these satellite/cable providers just ring them and say you want to disconnect. The prices plummet whenever you threaten to leave.

Do they not ask you, where exactly you saw this prices because, as was mentioned above, their website does quote the higher prices... Are they really that keen to sell their system that they will sell at these prices ?

    I reconnected to them yesterday.

I wanted a new box but when I mentioned the "new box or 6 months half price" offer to the rep he replied that they don't usually do it but they'd give me the box _and_ 6 months half price ! ...Nice to see that the box now comes with a scart (to join the collection).

Nope, didn't ask anything like that. At the time I ordered anyway, The online prices were cheaper and the phone prices were the current online prices. I just quoted to him " why is online cheaper " and he just mentioned, " Oh thats right, I'll give it to you for 69Euro so " And he also mentioned to me " If you're ever ringing up quote the online cheap price and we will sell it for that price."

The disadvantage is you are back on a 6, 9 or 12mth min contract?

If you want to reconnect just for Dec/Jan (Christmas) avoid special offers.

The killer is the difference in deals for new and existing customers (makes sense though I suppose).

I dont have a 2nd TV and I'm not getting one just to avail of the free installation and cheaper sky+ box as an existing customer (and then pay an extra E15 per month for a multiroom subscription I dont want).

New customers get free installation and a cheaper box without having to get multiroom.

I guess I'll just keep waiting till some deal comes along with free sky+ installation for an existing customer, no requirement to get multiroom and a great price on the box.
    I'll be waiting awhile :-)

...I've just been onto the Sky website and they're quoting 449 for the HD box, and another 75 for installation. Was it 299 last week?

Got exactly the same deal as HungryJoey installed last Tuesday with six months of Sky Sports free(thus six months of Sky+ free). Again like Joey I'm glad I didn't bother with HD as the PQ of standard Sky is better than I expected. Just need to decide which of the Logitech remote controls I'm going to buy as having to press three buttons to get to UTV is crazy - unless I'm doing something wrong.

Yep back for 6 months which will cover the Winter and at half price I won't complain too much. The main spur to going back was that they seemed to have stopped the box offer (or at least the most recent offer didn't have the box but the previous (and still valid) offer did).

Of course now I miss having the ITVs and BBC3/4/cbeebies on the EPG...
