So, over the summer Ive been kinda getting into some weight training and was wondering what the DCU gym had to offer in that department?

Do they have good free weight equipment and all that ****?

Its €210 for the year for students... As a student who just finished and still has a valid student card, I'm hoping I might be able to get student rates for my membership renewal, which is soon... Anyone shed any light on this?

There's an academic year thing for roughly €175 I think. It's all on the Sports club page AFAIK.

    Got a link to that?

I think it's €180 for students to join for a year. The only downside is the gym is split into two rooms and the weights gym isn't open to the public, only to 'elite' atheltes which I think means certain clubs and teams based in DCU. Go to reception and ask for the tour, they're usually more than happy to show you whats what.

It's 210 for the whole year or 175 for the academic year, there is a half year option for intra doers only. See http://www.dcu.ie/sportsclub/member_fees.shtml

Is there a car park for the gym? Just wondering because I had to put my car reg number on my membership form.

i think that you are allowed to park at the back of the residences. In that car park. Not 100% sure though

Before I go any further, are you or have you been a member of the gym?

Sports complex, yes but I never used the gym. One of the guys I work has been a member of the gym for two years so I'm more or less telling you what he said.

Regular users of the gym can still use the weight machines and free weights in the new gym. The old gym is now the elite gym which is reserved for sports clubs

Which are rubbish. The "free weights" consists of a rack of dumbells that only go up to 20kg and a bench that doesn't even have a bench press rack.

Completely agree. I went up today to see what the story was and they still have that stupid policy of not letting people use the good part of the gym unless they play in the Eircom league, etc... which really sucks because I have days where I have a 2 hour and 3 hour break between lectures when I could train which would also save me going to my gym in the evening when I got home. Receptionist said they 'might' let you use the good part of the gym if you play for a certain college team. Didnt say which ones though.

The elite gym is really just for scholarship students...which means it is practically the gaa gym. the only case i know of so far where non scholarship students get in is the dcu soccer club which has been given the chance because we are hosting the collingwood competiton this year so need to improve. and by the way the "free weights" in there dont stop at 20kg believe me im in it and they are a lot heavier than that and apparently its the biggest and best of its kind in the country....so dcu says anyway :D
