Anyone see this prick on the Late Late Show?

Of the loser Tom (Hell's Kitchen US) he said something along the lines that he was:

'just waiting for the sweat to drip off his big Jewish nose into the pasta'

What a ****ing racist, can't believe he won't be slated for it in future. What a prick...

Any Jews in here want to comment?

Gordon Ramsay said it on the late late show. Op is correct in his recollection of what was said. Gordon came over in the interview as a rude arrogant twat but makes you wonder is that not the image he wants to project. It is what he is most recognizable for and it does sell whatever book he was in Dublin to plug.

When I seen Gordon Ramsay for the first time a few years ago I didn't like him. But now I love his shows and I think he's quite likable and I think overall he is a good person.

He just likes to curse. :)

    I agree!

You could hear the audience tensing up everytime he said "****"

Can't wait for the hysterics about it on Liveline on monday!!! ;)

Maybe he's entertaining and yes maybe he says what's on his mind, but saying anti-Semitic comments like that on the Late Late isn't on. It would make me think twice about buying any of his books (and I buy lots of cookery books).

Even Pat the Grey was uncomfortable about it saying something pithy like "surely it doesn't matter what religion his nose was", trying to retrieve an uncomfortable situation.

Ramsay takes size 15 shoes (see trivia on wikipedia) - he surely put his foot into it this time.

Another example of political correctness going way over the top again.

    True, true!

Maybe we should reopen the debate as to wether Jews are really a "race" anyway...

True, he just says it like it is. What I really liked was the way he treats his children, he made them muck out after their pigs for a £1 a day. And i strongly agree with his ideas of the family eating together. As a person I would deck him if he talked to me like that but as a chef and a father I have alot of respect for him. And his shows are entertaining, politically incorrect or not.

I'm jewish and I found it very offensive. I didn't see the clips but from what you say I reckon he was out of line. If he said something like "just waiting for the sweat to drip off his big nígger nose or out of her greasy mexican hair into the pasta" he wouldn't have got away with it!

I would doubt if it was meant to be taken seriously. Maybe it was his feeble attempt at a joke?

A vast amount of comedians use religion and race as a basis of comedy (though I admit that Ramsey is far from comedic).

I honestly don't think that Gordon Raysam is a really great guest to have on the Lata Late he is another reality wannabe. He is the sterotypical chef. Why would I want to watch that?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 731 ✭✭✭Madge

It wasn't just the jewish comment he made but he went on about the poor guy for a good bit, basically saying he was fat and an ejit etc.
Ramsey comes across as a vindictive and arrogant man. I wouldn't eat in his restaurants

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,347 ✭✭✭daiixi

So someone makes the concious decision to go on a show with Ramsey and then gets to complain that Ramsey was rude to him? HELLO?! Of course he was. That's half the point and drawing power of the show. If he didn't want to be treated like that he shouldn't have applied.

Political correctness gone overboard, folks.... This is Gordon Ramsay, FFS.
And Tom was fat, he did have a big nose, and did sweat alot, regardless of religion.

Pigman II, I wonder if some Jewish people might find your username offensive, considering your religion??!!!

True, it is part of why alot of people watch the show, just the way Ramsay is.

I agree he was out of order but there is a difference between 'jewish' and the 'n' word. Also 'spic would be more offensive than mexican. Reminds me of a great scene in 'Rescue me' where the fire house undergo a political correctness trainign day.

If he had said "big Catholic nose", no one would give a damn. Having said that, he's a complete murderous racist ass. I only wish he had said "big Muslim nose" so he'd get his ass jihaded.............

I don't think he is another reality wannabe - if you've watched any of his shows (Hells Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares, Boiling Point, The F Word), you'll know he isn't a one hit wonder.

Oh, and he is definitely not a stereotypical chef. A stereotypical chef doesn't get 3 Michelin stars.

I just think he isn't worth having on the Late Late or any chat show for that matter.

He is about as interesting as Simon Cowell.

He is an addition too a long list of bad guests on the Late Late.

That's just the point TmB, regardless of religion. That's why I thought ramsay was overstepping the mark qualifying it with Jewish. I don't give a toss if he swears, I thik it's funny in a way, poor tosser doesn't have much grasp of the English language if he has to resort to F*** all the time - like everyone from Limerick.

    :p

    **** you. Guess where I'm from :D:D:D:D

How did a discussion about GR get so heated. At least he was a way better guest than Sophie Anderton was on Tubridy.

Ramsey is a man who went from a 30,000 sterling bank loan to open his first restaurant to the multi-millionare now, more then anything about the man I respect that no end. Dedication, hard work and taking zero bulsh!t got him to where he is today.

OP you are living a very sheltered life if you found his comments SO offensive as to try to stir up some kind of outcry. (do yourself a favor and dont go see the up coming 'BORAT' film)

If such 'qualification' was in a book it would be considered good writing i.e. sort of subtly providing additional information about a character without explicitly saying it. Like an adjective.

Is it just me or don't jewish people tend to have on average larger noses. The same way asian people tend to be smaller. The same way white people have whiter skin. The same way black men tend to have larger members.

What's racist about stating the truth?

People need to start growing up and stop being so sensitive.

    p.s. I have red hair.

I think Ramsey was wrong to use the term "Jewish nose" in the context of what he was doing; an interview to plug a book.

If he was one of the stars of a boundary pushing comedy show or if he was a stand up comedian and he used the term in an environment where it was obviously meant as a joke (albeit a un-pc one) then possibly he may have gotten away with it, but under the circumstances I definitely think he sounded Anti-Semetic.

Is Gordon Ramsey an anti-semite? I doubt it. Just as he was using offensive language (****, **** etc.) for shock value on the show, he prob made the Jewish remark in the hope of provoking Kenny and his audience.

Did anyone else find that as pathetic as I did? Ramseys behaviour and swearing on his own shows usually makes for mildly amusing television, but his cursing and swearing on the Late Late reminded me of a little child that swears around adults to see the reaction he gets because he knows he isn't supposed to. Pathetic. He thought the poor little Irish people would be shocked at his language (and of course Pat was, squirming away like the little worm that he is) but when we didn't give a flying **** whether Gordon Ramsey swears or not, he thought he'd try and up the ante a bit by going for the anti-jewish remarks. I'm sure if that hadn't worked and Pat didn't take exception to the remark, he prob would have tried to say the holocaust never happened or indeed anything controversial he could think of. Pathetic.

Altho I am strongly opposed to the ILLEGAL Israeli occupation of Gaza and the West Bank, I am also opposed to religious persecution and I believe that that last thing we need in this current climate is for B-List celebrities to add to the existing tension between the religions of the world by making ignorant remarks on national television.

I think it's generally accepted nowadays that describing someone using racial stereotypes is offensive to most people.

eg: saying all Jewish people have big noses indicates you are ignorant to the fact that some people are Jewish by religion, others by descent.

Leaving the late late show comment aside (he was wrong to say that) I personally think Ramsey is an icon. His enthusiasm for food is unparalleled. I wish I had his drive and ambition. He is, imo, an example to us all (aside from his comment).

just out of interest because I've been on nites and haven't seen a paper or news this week, has the irish media picked up on the remark in any way? papers, radio etc. just wondering..

Has it gotten to the stage now where Jewish people get offended if the word Jew or Jewish is used in a sentence? If someone was gesturing to a good looking woman to get her 'sweet Irish Ass' out of the way or someone from the UK was asked to move their British Ass in an attempt to speed them up or whatever, nothing would be said because in general there is not much tension in the world when it comes to describing people as Irish or British but as soon as you mention the word Jewish or Arab, suddenly you are racist and out of order. It's a sad way the world is going. It was right to try and rid the world of words like n****r or S**c etc because they have no place in the world but when we start censoring the actual correct term for someone's race, religion or nationality, PC has gone too far.

There is obviously a TV market in people watching some so called "celebrity" insulting other people.

Ramsey,Cowell,Osbourne etc. etc. etc. make millions doing this .

I suppose you can't blame them ,when jugheads watch them, and instead of copping on and seeing them as the talentless bullies they are,and switching off.
