i just got a new hard drive and have transfered any needed files to it. i then used kill disk to write my old disk with 00000.....s.
when i then tried to install an operating system on that disk, after i put in windows cd i get an error saying " boot failure. please insert disk and press enter. my two hard drives show up in bios and i am booting from cd first.
tried disconnecting the second hard drive and stil same error

    any ideas please?

Sounds to me like it's not booting from the CD properly... I'd say double-check your CMOS setup for anything you may be missing boot-order wise... and try a different CD just to see if the CD itself is the problem.
Did you re-jumper the CD drive or anything while installing the harddrive? (if they were on the same bus or whatever)

It shouldn't matter what you've done with the harddrives; as long as the CD drive is on its own IDE cable with the correct jumper settings (can't remember if master/slave/cs even matters if it's on it's own ide channel, it's been a while), and everything is correct in the BIOS setup - you should be able to boot off the CD if the CD is bootable and working.
    ... in my experience anyway.
Check the IDE & power cables to the CD drive, just incase they became dislodged during the harddrive install.

Actually, I'd say you could completely unplug both harddrives, forget about them for a while and concentrate on getting the PC booting off a CD.

Anyway, these are just things I'd look at off the top of my head.
