Okay, so im probably looking for help from a reasonably selective audience but here goes. I've gotten a canon Ip4200, a nice little photo printer.

Its contrary, B&W prints are fine but colour prints seem to have a yellow cast as well as an increased contrast problemo.

I've used the head cleaning thing, and theres ink in all the carts. i'm a divil for messing with settings and then forgetting !!! so it could be something i've ticked.

any suggestions? im going to find myself a canon forum also , but maybe some of ye have genric printer setup help tips

indeedy, i thought it might be so i got some canon paper.....but its not that!

I had some kodak paper but the printer really didnt like that at all.

Didnt realise there was a third skill to learn in this photography larky, its seems printing is a whole other world of messing around on top of taking the pic and processing it!

I find sometimes ,that when I take a picture and print it straight from the camera ,it comes out better than if I put it through the pc.

It might be the way the monitor is set up.

print a calibration print on your printer and then adjust your monitor so it looks exactly like the print

alternatively, use a photo lab that uses technology that costs €150,000 and costs from about 10c a print and gives you a huge number of paper choices ;-)

fyi photobox will give a slight browny cast to b+w images.
peak imaging is the best online i've come across for b+w

I got some Ilford Gallerie smooth pearl paper in PC world for €18 and it is fabulous for b&w, printing on an Epson R200.

Tbh, that's your moniter callibration, not the printer!

If it was the printer, the tint would be in the b&w aswell. Have fun redoing all your prints to suit though ;):D:p

On another note, if you're gonna print B&W from digital, I'd reccommend you put a blue filter over it if the printer dosn't have proper B&W inks. It'll try make the monochrome up with other colours, and give a colour cast. And least using a filter, you can make sure it comes out near enough to what you want before sending it in. If that makes sense. I'm hungover... :(

I think you are right on the money there.... Anyone got a nice well balanced blue sky & something colourful photo so i can try and fiddle with this monitor a bit?? I probably set the white way low when i got this lcd, to spare my eyes!

Which of these images looks more natural (if either!)

well the second one is my "finished" shot.
It prints out way to contrasty with most of the wall detail gone and the sky completely blown out. I alter it to the first one , this prints out to look like the second!!!

so more grr arrrgh. I'll have to do more fiddling about with my monitor. thanks for the help all!
