does anyone else think that the canteen facilities in DIT are just not up to scratch? DIT is the biggest college in Ireland, yet I have to go to the local pub every day and spend nearly 10 euro on some hot food. I attend Mountjoy Square but maybe its different for u

If I were you I would make the short (relatively) trip down to Cathal Brugha St, thats where the food and tourism part of DIT is and supposedly they do top nosh down there. And cheap too.

If you expect much of mountjoy sq, then you only have yourself to blame imo.

What is that supposed to mean?

Agree with Shoutman, Cathal Brugha Street canteen is good. It is also the only canteen (as far as I know) which is not sub-contracted out to a catering company and is actually run by DIT.

The other ones that I have been in, Aungier Street and Kevin Street, are terrible. And they get worse as the year goes on. Wait until the chips start to taste of fish, then the soggy vegetables start to taste of the fish...

What are you on about Aungier st probably has the cleanest and nicest canteen of all the DIT's.. The food is lovely but the portions aren't great tbh

Aungier St. can be really hit and miss. I got some great scampi there one day, the next day my pancakes were disturbingly crispy.

Possibly a bit harsh on Aungier Street, it is a bit hit and miss. (I'd try to give it a miss most of the time if I could though!)

It is clean, it does have that much going for it. But the portions are small, and for what you get it is a bit over priced, especially with some of the pubs in the area doing lunch time specials. In saying that, it is still a lot cheaper than Java City which is putting up the prices on a daily basis. (Or they just forget how much they are supposed to be charging).

No, I'm sorry, I don't know why I'm trying to defend them! It is sh1te, it is too expensive, the portions are too small, far too many things taste of fish, pasta is not supposed to be rubbery and if Cathal Brugha Street can do decent food, then the rest of them have no excuse.

Aungier St canteen????? or the "Slop shop" as I call it :D . Thank God there is plenty of quality establishments surrounding Aungier St. I havent been back to the canteen since they opened for the semester.

Bolton street has good and bad days, more bad than good.
But the deli there is pretty good,
Triple decker club sandwich in the SU is good tooo.
And dessies and decos delis accross the road.

But in saying that I still go to cathal brugha once or twice a week.
Food is good and portions are pretty damn big.
same the price has gone up again.
Two years ago it was €3.50 for a dinner. Now its €4.70

I went to Bolton St. and I thought the food from the canteen was great. But then again I'm a bit of a fat B**tard! Sure if you dont like it get your mammy to make you a packed lunch!

Im based mainly in Bolton street and I love the breakfast there, the chips are always undercooked though. The roast turkey dinners are good.

Im in Mountjoy on a thursday and have found that it is worth the short trip to go down the road to Spar on the corner of Gardener street just down from the "Hill 16" pub. Thats alot cheaper then the pub.
