Dead Hdd - Legit Xbox - What Are My Options?

I have an XBOX, but the HDD died recently. I have a few old HDDs lying around about 8-10Gb in size.

Basically what I'm looking to do is just play my games the way I have always played them!

Can I simply copy over an image to the HDD? How do I do this?

I am not going to get a mod-chip but may be open to the idea of a soft mod, if convenient.

    Can anybody give advice please?

    Thanks.

Nope, it won't work and AFAIK there is no way to do it.

You'll have to send it back to MS and lose all your saves :/

EDIT: Just realised you have a orignial Xbox, ignore me :D

There's a soft mod with Splinter Cell, and you can probably pick this up pretty cheaply if you don't already have it. It's a great game too!

You do know that if you change the HDD that the box will be banned from XBox Live, don't you? Even if you don't install a mod chip. At least, that's what happened to me

For what it's worth, the process isn't that hard to set up a new HDD. Just make sure that the new disk isn't too old so that it can be locked/unlocked - I had problems with an old HDD that I tried first. There's lots of info on the Internet on the topic, and I think there's a sticky here with pointers to some resources that sorted me out.
