I ask this as a genuine question cos for the life of me (and Tiger Woods) I just don't get it. If the Open and a mega-budget pro-am in Adare can take place with little more than a nod and a wink why can't this?

    Mike.

    Mike.

1... Its a team event Europe vs USA ... as opposed to Open and Adare which are individual events...important in their own right but not in this league. This is team USA playing... not a collection of individuals.

2.. It is on the WORLD stage, and as such, given the fact that one of the teams is USA would gain worldwide publicity for any terrorist group who wanted to disrupt it.

3.. Again given the attendance 3 x Presidents of the USA it provides a very high profile for terrorist involvement.

4.. The logistics of evacuating an area like the K club in the event of a bomb scare or suspicious rucksack situation would be enormous. therefore it makes perfect sense to me to minimise as far as possible the possibility of this happening...and if it did happen, reduce the parameters to be searched.. eg banning rucksacks.

5.. As hosts to this event the European tour, the Irish Govt etc naturally wish to take EVERY precaution to minimise any adverse security issues. They obviously think, as I do ,that inconvenience ,however annoying it is to the fans, is infinitely better than allowing a minor or major disruption to the event due to security issues.

6.. Indirectly the Irish Govt. is responsible for the safety of the USA team and one need not dwell on the consequences for all should something terrible happen.

Theres six good reasons that I can think of Mike, there are plenty more.

Hopefully we all can enjoy the event and everything goes well.
