Traffic Congestion on the Quays

The last two days have seen my trip from Lucan to down double in duration.

There doesn’t seem to be any explanation for this.

All is fine until you get to Hueston and try and merge on to the quays. It took 30 minutes for this.

Is there any reason for this? The bus driver said it was probable the Ryder Cup.

    Any one got any ideas?

i am normally on my motorbike but today i spent nearly 2 hours on the bus from Lucan. Lucan was worse than the quays. I got on the bus and 20 minutes later we had moved about 15 metres.

Traffic has been getting steadily worse in Lucan over the last year. It is getting unbearable.

If you leave early enough traffic in Lucan can be ok

Same from Swords. Took me nearly 2 hours to get to work today. It's only happened this week.

I'm hoping it's the Ryder Cup.

Me too but how would traffic going to the Ryder Cup cause such problems in town

The weather in Dublin is fine

i normally leave around 7 and the traffic has been getting steadily worse. I dread to think what it will be like when adamstown is up and running. But traffic is pretty bad everywhere i suppose.

The weather is surprisingly good in dublin at the moment.

I get the bus around 7 at the bus stop near the church at the girls school. Noramlly gets me into town around 7:30. If I get the 7:10 bus I get into town around 7:45. Last 2 days I've got the bus around 7:06 and get in town around 8:30

When Adamstown is up and running hopefully I'll be moved to my new place in Lexlip and will be getting the train to work

I'm so glad I moved from Lucan to Crumlin 2 years ago. I can walk to work in twenty minutes instead of spending 3 hours in the car everyday!

I gave up trying to drive into town everyday due to the increasingly heavy traffic. Unless I'm prepared to leave my house at 6.30 or so (which will get me into town in an hour - and then I have to wait 30 minutes before my office opens), it will take me 1 1/2 - 2 hours to drive the 25 miles into Dublin.

I'm now taking the train from Maynooth but the problem here is that its impossible to get car parking in the station after 7.30. I've left the car parked unobtrusively in a nearby estate on a few occasions but yesterday I was verbally attacked by a resident for "clogging up her estate with my car" (its a Renault Megane not an articulated truck). The car was parked on the main access road and was not blocking anyone's driveway - in fact it wasn't even in view of anyone's house.

Now my problem is if I drive into town, I'm adding to the gridlock and the stress is taking years off my life. On the other hand, if I can't park in the train station, I'll be attacked by a nutcase who has nothing better to do than patrol her housing estate looking for people who shouldn't be there.

    You just can't win:confused:

I can never understand why representatives from the local authorities from the Greater Dublin region all sit on the DTO, yet none of them it would seem have rezoned land for Park n Ride purposes.
Surely when they were zoning X amt of land for residential areas, it woud have made sense to also rezone land near Train stations/QBCs for private investors to make use of the tax breaks on Park n ride.
Kildare Co Co should be made CPO the car park from Maynooth train station, and a multistorey car park be built there, in addition to building a roundabout on the main road at the entrance/exit of that carpark! Likewise with the Glenroyal car park and some of the land up along the canal.
Our local authorities seem to have endless demands for cash to build new roads, but when it comes to Park n Rides, its a different story. Then they blame the government for the roads being clogged! There is no alternative for many people, it's not as if people want to drive and pay for parking in Dulbin city.

You pay your car tax so you're perfectly entitled to park anywhere you want so long as it's legal. If she has a problem with people parking in her estate she should get the residents to get together and ask for parking meters.

You do know that common sense doesn't apply to the powers that be. In fact Iarnrod Eireann have been flying a kite re. making people pay for parking their cars at the train stations. At the moment my return ticket is €5 - if I had to pay another €4 for car parking (like the luas park and ride off the Naas road), I'd go back to driving as it would be cheaper.

As for the looney bin having a go at me for parking in "her private estate", my impression was that people own the piece of land between their front and back walls and that the space outside their driveway was public property. I used to live in Maynooth and my next door neighbours were always parking their car outside my house - didn't bother me, but if it did, there was nothing I could do about it.

There are no places to park cars near the train station in Maynooth that won't upset someone. All the shopping centres state that they have people patrolling the car parks and will clamp cars parked for more than 3 hours. The housing estates have lobbied local Cllrs to put double yellow lines outside their houses to stop commuters parking in their precious estates.

Its no wonder our roads are clogged as people like me have no alternative but to drive if we are unable/unwilling to get up at the crack of dawn in order to get a parking place at the local train station

Dont think it applies to estates but in the country side you own up the the median out side your house but the local co co have the right of way on it.

I'm always tut-tuting the people parked at the top of my estate just across from the station! ;)
I would love to see more car parking spaces and in fairness the best place would be to put in a very large multi story on the harbour field but can you imagine the uproar if that was suggested?

FYI Many new estates are private property (run by management company, not council) and you can be clamped.

But this particular estate is not run by a management comapany and thus the roads are public property IMO.

Do you live in Silken Vale in Maynooth and if so, why is there such an over the top reaction to a few cars parking (out of the way and for a few hours) in this estate. I see someone has even put signs up on the wall saying "No Parking - Private Estate".

Are visitors to your house required to present ID and proof of visit to the anti car parking nazi who had a go a little oul me??:D

if you are on a un restricted public road, you have a tax/insurance disc and you are not causing an obstruction, I think you can park BUT as I understand it you only have a RIGHT to park at a spot actually designated as a parking area.

I have some sympathy with people who have trouble parking near their own homes due to others parking there BUT what do those people do when they go visiting or shopping etc....

If it's a Private estate you shouldnt be there unless you are a bona fide visitor.....to park there is akin to parking in someones drive...now you wouldnt do that would you?

Nope just across the road in the other estate!
There has been a noticable increase in cars parking all day in there, I was being sarcastic about tut-tutting, I couldn't care. There were a few signs placed on cars but no sign of anti-parking nazis yet.
My sister uses the station every day but she has the advantage of parking in my drive :D

What's the difference between "can park" and "have the right to park" ?
You can park on the public road as long as you do so legally. End of story.

With regards to the front of your house; you do not 'own' it but you are responsible for it (within reason).

the difference is that you COULD be deemed to be causing an obstruction when parked on the highway if you werent parked at a designated spot.A subtle difference perhaps but one to bear in mind if arguing with the Gards or the clampers....

I've seen big tail-backs of buses caused by someone in a big empty car who thinks it's OK to block the bus-lane & the hundreds of people in it while forcing their way into the flow from Liffey Street.

Today it was better. A lot better compared to the last 2 days so I dont think it was down to the Ryder Cup

The Ryder Cup started proper yesterday....I noticed that down in Santry/Swords Road and heading up to the Northside Shopping centre area towards the Malahide Road, there were alot of country regged cars, most people driving had baseball caps on, so I imagine they were golf fans going to the Ryder cup, plus the fact that the Ballymun road is a mess with road works....

Also people these cars thought it was okay to create 3 lanes going into one.....
