Some folk who live within 50/100 miles ! ! of the K club were led to believe they could rent their gaff for zillions for a week..suckers...The only people who made a few bob were the cunning few who cashed in on greed, set up a site and charged these homeowners money to advertise on their sites !!
All the gaffs still available on these sites...Its an ill wind etc !

I know a lady charging €30,000 a night for her 2 bed house. Her house is a 4 minute walk to the K Club. It was booked nearly a year ago.

It's a free market economy. They merely miscalculated demand. Why should they not ask 30k if there are people willing to pay it? In this case there weren't. The Ryder Cup is much like the millenium where everyone tried to rip everyone else off and it hyperinflated. In the end a lot of places closed down for the night as nobody was willing to part with money foolishly. It was a damp squib. Same thing happened with accommodation prices when The Tour De France started in Dublin. People aren't stupid.

ROFLMAO. 80 miles. They are obviously counting on Americans thinking our roads are like thiers. Took me 1 hour 20 mins to get into work because of traffic from the Kay club and I only had to go 12 miles.

Trying to rip off Americans is pointless. The way the $ is now they can barely afford the prices as it is.

I expect the majority of the gallery to be solidly European still. They're not aiming to exclusively rip of Americans. Many if not most of the out of towners will be from the UK and beyond.

I was just tlaking to a friend of mine about this and they confirmed that they were told they could get 30,000 for their house which is right next to the Heritage golf course in killenard co. laois.

For several reasons they couldnt do it.

But i dont think the appeal to patriotism worked.

There is a thread in the golf forum on a BBc report.

I work at youngs cross and confirm that its a nightmare.
I dont want to be seen to be bashing... but the first part of the report says that the deficiencies in teh public transport system have been highlighted...
And that is just the truth!

Just for the record these are asking prices. I have yet to hear of anyone who actually got anywhere near this.

It was a big talking point here in kildare a few months ago. Everyone was talking silly figures of money. Lots of people had their houses listed.

Those websites charge up to a few hundred euros to list those properties and were more than happy to add to the buzz.

I doubt many people even viewed the websites to find properties. Rumour has it that some of these sites rang up people who had their houses listed and pretended to be Americans looking for accomadation and offered large amounts of money adding to the hype.
