Funding New Theatre Group

    Hi all,

We've just set up a new theatre group in Limerick and we are hoping to put on our first production in Mid-November. AS you can imagine, local businesses seem to take any approach for advertising or sponsorship with a pinch of salt - but we need to raise the money to make the production possible asap! Does anyone have any ideas that they've used before to raise funds? Or know of any novel things we could do to get some money together? Any ideas or help greatly appreciated!

All the best and thanks for your time.

I've done some extravagant publicity stunts for funding, using members of crew and cast. generally you can make money this way by doing the publicity while walking through the street...making as much noise as possible but also getting passers-by involved. It might seem tedious but it's great publicity and you'll get donations from poeple who wouldn't normally hear about you. also use the opportunity to drop in to businesses (with prior permission of course) to give them a taste of what they could be supporting. Don't forget though, public street performance often needs licencing/permission, but just call into your local council in advance and there shouldn't be a problem.
Otherwise if you get a venue for free, perhaps hold novelty workshops with a nominal fee for local schools. hope it helps.

A table quiz with spot prizes is usually a good one that gets tickets sold. Good luck with it.
