    Although not part of this free week, but it coincides due to the Tokyo game show or something, there are a few new downloads out today:

    According the Major Nelsons blog though the BFMEII map pack is not showing up as free at the moment though, but will be later.

    I think they are testing to see how many more gamers go online this week. I presume (big assumption) that if Sony offer a similar service to them they'll make Live free or at least reduce costs as it might impact negatively on sales. I mean 360 can't be the only console that charges for online, the online system isn't that expensive to run and I think they've probably made their money on it at this stage.

    Here's hoping, if it ever went free, I'd buy it in a second but I don't want to pay for online especially in Ireland when the broadband is patchy at best.

    There's no chance in hell that Sony are giving away a free online service!
    They're charging for absoloutly everything, even downloading demos which you can do for free on the 360 without even having a membership!
    Take a look at all the bitching about it over in the Playstation forum.

    P.S: I've had xbox live for the bones of three years, and I've never had a problem with my eircom broadband connection.
    €60 a year is nothing cosidering how amazing xbox live really is!

    How do I get the free gold membership?

    Is it suposed to make you a gold member automaticallly or what?

    You'll get a month of free gold membership when you first create a silver account on your xbox 360, but if you already have a silver account created then for this week it will automattically switch to gold, you don't have to do anything other than connect.

    Are you sure you are connected to Live OK, can you access the marketplace, and what region/ country did you specify when you initially created your silver account.

    I have a US silver account but that does not get gold access with this as its obviously the wrong region.
