International Conference on Art and Rural Culture to be held in Clare

    A major international conference entitled ‘New Perspectives on Art & Rural Culture’ will be held in Glór, Ennis, County Clare, Ireland on 19-21 October 2006. The Conference will address the need to develop new approaches to Public Art, specifically for rural communities.

    ‘New Perspectives on Art & Rural Culture’ is an initiative of Shifting Ground, a partnership project between Clare County Council and the Galway/Mayo Institute of Technology - co-funded by the Arts Council of Ireland. Keynote speeches will be given by internationally known conceptual/performance artist Suzanne Lacy and art critic/curator Simon Sheikh. Other speakers will include Croatian artist Kristina Leko, cultural geographer Fidelma Mullane and Spanish artist/activist Fernando Garcia Dory.
