HD Recommendations

Basically I'm looking for recommendations to replace the HD in my PC.

    Criterion are:

    1. Quiet
    2. Fast (Is SATA much of an improvement over IDE?)
    3. Run cool
    4. Capacity from 250MB to 500MB

It's been about two years since I've built my current set up. I normally go for WD drives and tend to stay away from Seagate, Maxtor and IBM.

    Recommendations anyone?

Seagate for quietness & coolness tbh. Reasonable price too.

I have always used the Westies (Caviar) as well but found Seagate pretty good in the other machines I have worked on in the past, keep fairly cool. How many SATA controllers has your motherboard got?

samsung and seagate tbh if you want quietness.

go for sata if your motheboard can take it.

there's no real physical performance gain but the cables are neater and you don't rip your hands to shreads trying to unplug them

Apologies. I meant Seagate, not WD in my OP.

My Buffalo 1TB NAS uses 4X250GB Seagate Barracudas, and they're very quiet and run cool.

I'm tempted to go for the following puppy...

But I need to check out if my MB supports SATA II or not.

The .10 series seagate are supposed to be serious fast, nearly as fast as raptors. That 400gb is a bit expensive, how bout this: http://www.komplett.ie/k/ki.asp?sku=320709
