I have recently purchased a laptop that has wireless enabled. It is able to receive wireless signals in hotspots to go online etc. But if I have broadband connected to the laptop via ethernet, is it possible to send out signals. This is my last attempt to weasle my way out of buying a 50 yo yo nintendo usb connecter for my ds, I so wanna play metroid online ;) , so any apps, or support posted would be great help. Thanks

All wireless adapters support "sending out signals", otherwise you would have no connection. What depends is whether your wireless adapter supports point to point bridging. We won't know that until you tell us what your lappy is.

After that, you want to set up Internet Connection Sharing.

This is it here. Is there an app that would support this "bridging". And even if it could, bridging isn't really sending out broadband signals, is it? Its communications between two laptops, rite?

If the DS has it's own built in wireless then my guess would be to put laptop wireless card into ad hoc mode and get DS to connect to this ad hoc hot spot. Then set Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on the ethernet connection of the laptop (Google for how to guides on this).

    That should work....

I got a guide, and worked my way through it. I got my DS to connect to the PC. My DS showed the name of the wireless connection on this PC, and the PC showed "UNKNOWN CONNECTION" in the wireless menu. So the next step was to test the connection, but it failed. Strange, the both of them are connected, has decent signal strength, yet the DS cant connect to the net. Well, gona keep looking for guides, otherwise I'm just gona leave. 50 euro for a wireless connecter just isn't right tbh..

Right, let me get this straight: You have a wireless NIC or some other kind of wireless hardware for your DS?

Why not just replace your modem with a wireless modem/router? or Just get a wireless router?

What's this "50 yo yo nintendo usb connecter for my ds" of which you speak?

Here it is on Lik-Sang. Its 40 euro there, but thats import remember. It is 50 euro over here, so Ive seen in Virgin and Game anyway...

I don't have a wireless router yes, but I am in college, and get direct port to ethernet from my room. So even if i had a wireless router lying around, I couldn't be able to use it.

The DS does have wireless hardware. It can connect to a wireless router, but I thought there was a way I could connect it to my wireless laptop...

You could be wasting your time anyway. Most college networks close off the ports used by games so even if you got the wireless working the game might not.

    True. So true it hurts...

What is your wireless card? It may be an Access point too (this what DS needs)

?? Of course you could. Just stick the wireless router into your direct ethernet port, and then connect your PC/Laptop to one of the LAN ports on the router and connect the DS wirelessly.

It'd work just fine. Whether it'd be a good idea is another matter. For a start, if everyone else on your floor tried to do it, you'd get interference like crazy. And if the DS doesn't support WPA encryption, then everyone else would be able to "leech" of your wireless connection.

I'd be kind of surprised if your accomodation is entirely "wireless free". If there's nothing official there, there's bound to be at least one person with a laptop who wants the convenience of wireless access and has set up their own access point.

I would buy a wireless router, but that costs monies.

I was looking for a way to send out broadband signals from the wireless that is intergrated into my laptop.

And yeh, there would be prolly would be major leech if I set up wireless router. About 72 people in my apt section alone...

That's what the USB device that you pointed to is for.

Well, because Nintendo doesn't give a damn about the security of your wireless network, the Nintendo DS doesn't support real wireless encryption*, so the only way to use the Nintendo wirelessly is use either an insecure wireless access point, or that Nintendu USB device (which they claim will only allow a Nintendo DS to connect).

So if you don't care about other people leeching off your connection, turn your laptop into an access point. If you do, spring for the USB dongle - it'll cost you about a pint a week between now and Christmas.

(* The Nintendo only supports WEP, and you can bet that in any apartment complex with 72 students, WEP is about as useful as a wet paper bag).

    True

A pint a week from now till xmas? OMG im going to college, im jot going to spend my monies on a gimpy usb dongle when i can get an extra pint a week in ;)

Well Im going to leave it for now. If I want to play with the best speeds etc, the dongle is the way to go. Ill invest in it later on, money is tight atm n ****.

    Thanks for the help...
