eBay bid retractions

Right, I was bidding on a dreamcast on eBay, but the maximum I was willing to pay was exceeded, so I left it and started bidding on another one.

Now the person that outbid me on the first one has retracted their bid (and I can't see how they were allowed to do it, given the rules on retractions I've read)

So now I'm the highest bidder on 2 dreamcasts, and I only want one. Does anyone know how I go about retracting my bid on the second one? Or would it be easier to retract my bid on the first one, considering it was just assumed I would still pay?

According to eBay, you can only retract if it's 24 hours before the auction end (which it isn't, down to 17 hours now), or if you can't contact the seller (and why would you if you've already bid but not yet won), so why did this guy get to retract his bid?

Would appreciate comments from anyone who has experience in the matter.

edit: I just notice the email doesn't say my name or have my username on it, which is unusual for eBay, isn't it. Despite this, the link does go to ebay.ie, and even if I type ebay.ie into a different browser window and hit My eBay, I am the winning bidder on this first Dreamcast.

PS: Link to Dreamcast 1 - Link to Dreamcast 2

Yeah, I'm looking at that page now, but I really don't think it's fair that my profile will say I retracted on a bid for the next 6 months, when it's not my fault.

Do you heart christmas already? Is it animating properly for you?

Before you give any information to any emails make sure it is a geniuine one from e bay. I was contacted lots of times by third parties trying to sell me stuff i had lost on bidding, and they were not from e bay.Be very careful who you give any information to especially if you have to give paypal login info

No, it is eBay for sure, it's just they didn't include my name, which they usually do...

    Hi

Why don't you contact the seller and ask them to cancel the bid, they should be able to do it.

    Regards
