List of Launch (and beyond) games for Wii. From Destructoid (http://www.destructoid.com/wii-have-got-games-and-another-wii-pun)
    Battalion Wars II
    Big Brain Academy (temporary name)
    Excite Truck
    Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
    Mario Strikers Charged
    Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
    Super Mario Galaxy (temporary name)
    WarioWare: Smooth Moves
    Wii Sports (bundled with hardware)

Avatar: The Legend of Aang (THQ)
Blazing Angels: Squadrons of WWII (Ubisoft)
Bust a Move Wii (Digital Bros)
    Call of Duty 3 (Activision)
    Cooking Mama Wii (Digital Bros)
    Disney/Pixar`s Cars (THQ)
Disney`s Chicken Little: Ace in Action (Buena Vista Games)
    Elevator Action Wii (Digital Bros)
    Far Cry: Vengeance (Ubisoft)
    Gottlieb Pinball Classics (System 3)
    GT Pro Series (Ubisoft)
    Happy Feet (Midway)
    Harry Potter (Electronic Arts)
    Impossible Mission (System 3)
Konami`s First Wii Title (presumed to be Elebits)
    Leaderboard Golf (System 3)
    Madden NFL 07 (Electronic Arts)
    Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (Activision)
    Monster 4×4: World Circuit (Ubisoft)
Need for Speed: Carbon (Electronic Arts)
    Open Season (Ubisoft)
    Puzzle Balls (System 3)
    Rayman: Raving Rabbids (Ubisoft)
    RED STEEL (Ubisoft)
Sonic and the Secret Rings (SEGA)
SpongeBob SquarePants and Friends: Creature from the Krusty Krab (THQ)
    SSX (Electronic Arts)
    Super Fruit Fall (System 3)
Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz (SEGA)
    Tennis Masters (System 3)
    The Ant Bully (Midway)
Tiger Woods PGA Tour (Electronic Arts)
    Tony Hawk`s Downhill Jam (Activision)
    Trauma Center: Second Opinion (Atlus)
    Wing Island (Hudson)
Apart from Trauma Cent"er", and possible Battalion Wars 2 ("bwii"), there's absolutely nothing on that list that grabs my attention. Red Steel is set to be a disappointment, by most accounts, Raving Rabbids is a party game, the EA games will be available on all the other consoles and I've never been a fan of Samus or Mario.

At this point, I suspect I would only play old Megadrive games on the Wii and am seriously considering waiting until next year and a more impressive games list before spending my "hard" earned cash.

If you've never been a fan of either Mario or Samus then you really are missing out. Zelda is shaping up to be a magnificent game and with Warioware and perhaps even Excite truck to back it up as well as the aforementioned Mario and Metroid games its a fine launch. Among the loads of other games there is sure to be something for everyone, i for one might pick up Wing Island and Far Cry along with my first choices.

December 8th cant come soon enough.

Not all of those are launch titles, most are launch "window".
And the likes of Metroid and Mario are 2007.

Personally I'm looking forward most to Zelda, with Excite Truck and surprisingly, Wii Sports from the actual launch titles!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,181 ✭✭✭✭Jim

    Each to their own tbh.

Imo its one of the most impressive launch list I've ever seen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,111 ✭✭✭tba

Corblimey I totally agree, there is nothing in there that I want to play, not one game. There is just no excitement generated by any of those titles

    RED STEEL (Ubisoft)
Gah, I want to see what type of interface the wii can muster before I get an FPS

Trauma Center: Second Opinion (Atlus) I like the stylus on my DS what advantage does the wiimote have? heres a tip chaps, add a bloody story and I might buy a sequel

Wing Island (Hudson) What the hell is this even?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 760 ✭✭✭TheAlmightyArse

It looks like one of the best launch line-ups of recent years to me. A return-to-form Monkey Ball with the perfect control system and mountains of party games, Excite Truck (which is looking tastier each time I see it) and a lovely Zelda game; I doubt any of these will disappoint. Wario Ware could go either way, given the dullness of Touched, but it could be as much fun as the first two.

That's potentially four excellent games at launch, with Metroid and Mario in the following months. Quite decent compared to the not-a-sausage line ups of, say, the Gamecube, XBox, PS2, DS, PSP and XBox 360 launches.

And Wii Sports is bound to be a bit of a laugh, even if only for a few hours. Hurrah for the return of bundled games!

Heh, for me it's a case of "get rid of the story and I might buy a sequel", I thought the game was all about the gameplay(which was excellent), and the story did nothing but get in the way of that.

I like the look of the wii launch, I'll more than likely get zelda and monkey ball on launch, maybe even rayman. I'll be getting my hands on wario ware, mario, metroid and elebits(not sure if I have that name right) as soon as I can. But the lineup is far from phenominal.

For me it has to be the most impressive launch line-up I've seen for a console. Sure it's launching with Zelda. No (real, don't bring up the CDi games) zelda game has been anything less than fantastic. Excite trucks should be great as well if excitebike 64 is anything to go by. I'd say warioware could be a riot although I wasn't convinced by touched either.

It's a shame Metroid won't be out until March. I hope they are working on the graphical polish and it isn't control related problems.

I just say Elevator Action Wii  Hope it can match the classic Elevator Action Returns.

    Wii Sports
    RED STEEL
    Trauma Center: Second Opinion

    Is this a troll?

    PSX - Ridge Racer
N64 - Mario64, PilotWings (then nothing for months)
PS2 - Tekken Tag..... Fantavision
    Xbox - Halo
    GameCube - ummmmmm.....
    Xbox360 - PGR3, Perfect Dark Zero

    Wii - See first post.

Taking fanboy goggles off for a moment Nintendo usually have dire launches, keeping hardware from third parties until too late for them to get launch titles out so Nintendo capitalises on launch attaches.

The sheer number of titles and breath of genres alone make it one of the best launches I've ever seen. And for one of the major releases (Red Steel) to be a 3rd party game is unheard of (for a nintendo console).

Fanboy goggles back on, it's going to be the best launch ever and further solidifies why Nintendo consoles are the only ones I buy at launch.

Nope only people who criticise it while using false facts that they can't back up. Corblimeys argument is a matter of opinion so therefore can only be disagreed with :)

I always found the Nintendo launches to be some of the best. Granted the GC and DS didn't have a great launches at all. However usually Nintendo launch games offer something new. F-zero, Mario Bros. and Mario 64 blew away every other game at the time of their launch in technical and gameplay terms. The GBA also gave us something that was about to be forgotten, good old 2D gameplay not to mention another F-zero and a great Castlevania.

Im not a nintendo fan, never owned one of their consoles, but that looks like an impressive list to me. If those titles are available at launch it'll have a better catalogue than the 360!

I agree totally with you, thats why I didnt get a cube till RE came out on it! I think they may be starting to learn from their mistakes now though, and I think having Iwata at the helm is spurring these improvements on.

I didn't think so, I only thought those that do nothing but criticize it are trolling lol :D
If people are do nothing but criticize something then why come onto a forum where people obviously see something that they like? If people went onto the Lost or 24 or Prison Break topics and said nothing but criticisms then they would soon be accused of trolling too.

The term 'fanboy' is used a little too often too I think. If people are looking forward to the release of a console, and see merit in it and something they will enjoy, then that does not make them a fanboy. If they go around posting drivel like "s0ny suXX! Nint3nd0 will wii all over it!", thats obviously both trolling and fanboyism. As is someone saying the same on here about any of the consoles. But genuinely being interested in something isn't, especially when you are interested in the other platforms too.

Wasn't Waverace also a quality launch title for the N64? Technically it was impressive at the time, the handling was spot on I thought, and it was a fun racer in multiplayer, (Until Mario Kart 64 came out and showed us how fun multiplayer could be) the single player got old very quick though.

Only threw up a few examples. Wave Race was an excellent game but not the slowed down PAL conversion.

Theyre about the only ones im interested in but the only ones Im really interested in are Zelda, metroid, Batallion wars and Madden actually. inteerested to see how madden plays with the controller.

saying that I dont think there was one 360 game I was reallly really interested in until Oblivion and next there is Gear of war and Rainbow six, pro evo 6 and 1 or 2 others but that has taken a year. for the wii to have Zelda at a launch is such a great thing because this is going to be a huge zelda game compared to other ones so it should last ages.

Just in relation to the bad flak Red Steel is taking... watched this video earlier and i have to say my faith is restored.

its back on my list, but not as a first day buy... maybe a few weeks later ¬_¬

It looked ok when he was using the guns but I still think the sword parts look a bit dodgy.

the best thing about the launch delay between America and Europe is that we have 2 weeks for reviews to get posted. I'll make my mind up after I see reviews.

Chances are that those 2 weeks won't turn people off the wii's very own perfect dark zero, whichever game is lucky enough to get such a title. My money is on red steel however :)

That video is actually from E3 back in May! Apparently they've made a lot of changes since then according to IGN anyway, who seemed to be one of the first to be hands on with it and have the most experience with it. Last comments I read on it were that they've improved it a lot, only problem seemed to be at one stage the guy tried to turn quicky and the aiming reticule seemed to get stuck at the side of the screen.

Yeah 2 weeks to decide that Red Steel maybe not be the game for you.. and then either wait for Metroid Prime: Corruption to bring the goods OR Far Cry which is also on the way to Wii from Ubi.. the way they talk about this game i am pretty confident your Wii-mote will be used in every way imagineable

Also I have seen some of the new Red Steel shots and i reckon it will play alright but not as well as everyone thinks.. but it will be a good start.. and also it will be a short game ( disappointing ), i just hope they start trying to make the multiplayer fun so that we have something to be hopefull about!

Nope, although I can see how saying the Wii "launch" is going to be weak and then listing some 30 odd games the vast majority of which a lot of people are looking forward to, could be considering 'trolling' :D

My point was that while there looks to be a lot of games released in the opening months of the console, absolutely nothing is piquing my interest. The 360 was the first console I bought anywhere near to launch date, and that was down to the games available at the time (and a sweet Xtravision offer). If the titles aren't there for me, I'm not going to buy the console. And I need more than 1 or 2 titles to keep my interest.

And yes, it's a matter of opinion.

    ...
And yes, it's a matter of opinion.

Exactly, it all just comes down to personal tastes and opinion. There is actually only one game thats got me interested in the 360 for example, Dead Rising, and thats just a recent release, before that there was nothing I particularly wanted to play! Assassins Creed looks very promising too, but there has been nothing else.

Like you said, opinion is what determines these things.
If we all liked the same things there would be no need for different gaming platforms as there could be one that would cater for everyone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,475 ✭✭✭corblimey

Looks like a great launch line-up to me. I was looking forward to Red Steel, but I'll be checking out the reviews (and forums, moreso) to see what people think of it before I get that. Can't wait to get my mittens* on Zelda in particular.

*Note: I do not actually wear mittens, usually

I'm the same, I think Red Steel has a lot of potential, but want to see the reviews and opinions of the finished game before I decide on it. Zelda is the one definate purchase with my Wii!

Oh and you dropped these... *hands you your mittens*

I'm sure there'll be some sort of Wii accessory controller similar to the above.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,316 ✭✭✭✭the_syco

    Mario Strikers Charged
    Super Mario Galaxy (temporary name)
    WarioWare: Smooth Moves
    Call of Duty 3 (Activision)
    Far Cry: Vengeance (Ubisoft)
Need for Speed: Carbon (Electronic Arts)
Sonic and the Secret Rings (SEGA)
Super Monkey Ball Banana Blitz (SEGA)
    Tony Hawk`s Downhill Jam (Activision)
For the above alone, I may buy it, but only if the games cost €30 or less. The Super Monkey ball game is the main reason. I was thinking of buying a game cube esp for that game, but I think the Wii will do instead.

    =-=

"Can I get a Wii please?"

Sure... if you wanna wait for the price to drop or to get them off adverts.ie when someone else gets bored of them!

RRP is €49 - €59, pretty much the same as PS2/GC/XBOX games.

Thers's a 'powergrip' accessory at launch. It could be even more stylish than the powerglove.

From IGN article about confirmed titles for euro launch

"First-party titles including The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Wii Play and Wii Sports (bundled with the console) will be joined by an extensive roster of third-party support."

Could someone remind me what Wii Play is?

Personally, I think the Euro launch games are fine. Plenty to keep me occupied till next year anyway. When Mario comes out (Yessss!! Get in there!!).

    IGN - Wii Play

Its basically mini games to get people used to using Wii remote I think. The duck hunt style target shooting, pool, a pong clone, table tennis, and a few others.
Bonus: It comes with an extra Wii remote.
