Training Squad Call-Ups For Kearney And Fitzgerald

Leinster backs Robert Kearney and Luke Fitzgerald have been called up to the Ireland squad for this week's mini training camp, as replacements for the injured John Kelly and Anthony Horgan.

The Munster pair of Kelly, who is suffering from an Achilles tendon injury, and Horgan, who has a hand injury, have both been forced to withdraw from the three-day Ireland get together.

Ireland coach Eddie O'Sullivan watched Kearney and Fitzgerald impress in Leinster's 16-9 Magners League win over Cardiff at Donnybrook on Saturday night.

Some neat footwork from Fitzgerald saw him field a high ball and cut inside the advancing Chris Czekaj for one particularly impressive break, while Kearney's all-round performance and industry marked him out as the man-of-the-match. - irishrugby.ie

Was suprised kearney wasnt in the squad fromt the begining, but what a shock it is for luke, he's only played 2 matches for leinster! is this too much too soon for him?

Would be surpised if they make the match squads, maybe now /is/ the time for a development squad, and not last year.

I'd rate Kearney ahead of Geordan Murphy at FB, GM should be moved to the wing, or the bench.

This type of thing up sets me. It should read that they were replaced because Kearney and fitzgerald are great young players that we want to develope.

I still find it worrying that Horgan was in the original squad ahead of Kearney, the NZ match last November proved Horgan should never be allowed near the international setup ever again and yet there he was.

Oh my god I hope Fitzgerald doesn't make it near a Ireland squad in the next year so, he very much looks his age physically. God he would be targetted badly and destroyed, another Tait in the making I'd fear!

    Stunning talent though, great prospects.

It s time to get the young guys at least training in the Ireland environment. We need cover in all postions as much as possible for the WC not even a year away and these guys have attacking flair. Imagine Horgan and Kelly coming on if the real Horgo or Hickey was injured V France or the like. ... . .

wasnt A Horgan out paced by a forward in that match also?!!:D

    SAP

Thers only one Horgo any way!!
