Not that I think people in here are that stuckup but...
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/13/AR2006091301907.html

one of which is called "Christ on a Cartesian Coordinate Plane," with a drawing of the X and Y axes over his figure on the cross. The other, "A Nativity Ob-scene," is of Joseph and the Virgin Mary talking about a bumpy rash she has, with her saying, "I swear, it was immaculately transmitted!"

The first one is bit lame for a college paper.... the second one is a bit gross...

The strips were removed at the request of the artist, U.Va. student Grant Woolard.

"The sole intent of my comic strip is to present situations that provoke thought and amusement," Woolard said in a statement on the newspaper's Web site. "As this comic did not achieve that goal, I have requested that it be taken down from the Cavalier Daily website. I apologize for the offense that this comic has produced."

The editor initially refused but I guess the cartoonist couldn't be bothered figthing over a few silly cartoons.

If they were putting out a comic that was challenging and intriguing and funny and cutting edge, that's one thing. When it's tasteless and not useful, and doesn't spark debate, and just offends . . . they deserve all the flak they get.

Is that a referrence to the Mohammad cartoons? The old "yes but this is different" line?

Quite possibly. When it comes to something the individual feels important being mocked, that whole 'freedom of expression' thing suddenly seems a lot less important.
