Am building a house and have heard that if you place a length of copper wire on the top of the house across the ridge tiles it stops birds landing and moss developing. Anybody ever hear of this or any other suggestions?

Never heard of that, and the first thing i thought of was lightening conductor.

I'd get a roof cat to keep the birds way.

How many birds are you expecting to camp out on your roof:confused:

    Hi AJL,

The copper strip is prevent moss and lichen from building up on the roof, the bird droppings can be a contributing factor to moss growth, take a look at any house with an aerial.

Copper wire won't help to stop birds landing on your roof because they have a large area to choose from, it may stop them landing on the ridge, doubtful though.

The only effect the copper wire will have is to give a better perch to the smaller bird species
