I have Windows Home Edition and am trying desperately to search for the Windows updates. It seems as if I don't have a valid version of Windows. What can I do in this instance? Should I register it online or something? How do I do this?

How long have you got it installed? Windows gives you 30 days to activate it. Try here to validate your copy and then it should be ok from there.
